Any Utahns out there?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
We are relocating to Salt Lake City area in a few weeks. We decided to leave area around Seabrook Nuclear power plant in New Hampshire. A wonderful job opportunity presented itself and left us dazed and confused. We are not Mormons but respect their beliefs and self-suffiency. Is Sen. Bennett pro-active in his own state regarding preparedness? What is the perspective of most Utahns? Any suggestions as to where to look to rent, don't mind commuting or is it a fairly prepared area?? Thank you for any advise.

I'm from Utah and as you may have heard we had a tornado blow through here the other day. pretty big mess. If you look on CNN today there is an article describing the response to the aftermath. I think it sums up what kind of preparedness goes on in our little state. It doesn't matter who you are. If you are a neighbor we all pitch in to help.

sad to say, but the 'perspective' of most Utahns (with whom I come in contact) is little different than that of most others in the world - complacent, blase', etc.Utah is 'high desert', and as such has water problems not unlike those of Arizona and Nevada - that are getting worse the more people who move here
additionally, some who have been prepared for a 'long time' have a view that y2k is just another man-made 'problem to be contended with'...
you'll enjoy SLC, great town, world-class scenery and outdoors activities; but, fairly yuppyfied like most towns of its size
perfect climate, beautiful terrain, great food, lovely women...
Welcome!
