Of course you can; you connect the DVD player output to the capture card input, then capture the video to *.avi, convert it to *.mpg (Video CD constrained profile), then include the resulting files in a VCD layout with, for example Easy CD Creator. If this sounds like the conventional way to make your own VCDs (for those well acquainted with the subject), it very well is; the DVD player merely replaced the camcorder or VCR as input source. BUT, sooner or later you find out that, even if all the authoring and burning were successful, the resulting video quality of the created VCD is, well, wretched (read-- really baaaad). This has to do with the copy-protect pulses put in the analogue outputs of DVD players intended to (gasp!) prevent people from making VHS copies of their DVDs. There ARE devices out there you can buy that you put in series between the DVD player output and capture card input, which should solve this problem. Even better, (in Hong Kong at least), you can find some DVD player models that have been purposely modified such that the output is pure and unadulterated by these copy-protect pulses (often refered to as VCR- friendly). But why would you want to span a DVD into several VCDs?? Aside from the poorer video quality at the end (no matter how pro your approach is), and all the authoring heave-ho, the original DVD is probably cheaper and better looking. Anyway, good luck.

There is another solution!!! But you must have a DVD-ROM! Rip the DVD with a Ripin' Software! Good Search! Then, extract AC3 to Wav with an Extract' Soft and compress VOB in AVI MPEG-4 (you can use Microsoft codec if you are nice or, if you want to get the best quality, take the DIVX Codec). Finally mux wav/mp3 and avi to get a VCR. If you compress in 720 or 640, you'll have a Hi-Quality like a DVD, but you must have a good processor (like C400) and a big HDD (like UDMA-66 7200RPM or SCSI ULTRA(1/2W)). Good Luck! Have a nice Day!

if you want to span a dvd over 7 or more disc's just rip a dvd with smartripper or claddvd then when that is done go to where you saved your dvd rip and burn each individual vob file on a disc. and there you have it! a burnt dvd .
