What is the standard edit software?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Editing DV Films : One Thread

I know that "adobe photoshop" is the industry standard for editing art. But what is the standard for editing DV? Is it Adobe premiere, edit DV? Avid? And if price does not matter which would be best? Adobe premiere 5.1, Edit DV, or Avid.

in what order? Thank you

There really isn't a standard. The vast majority of firewire-based cards are bundled with Adobe Premiere. But then again they don't actually do editing in native DV, they convert over to a different compression format like mjpeg.

One exception right now is FAST's DV Master Pro, which does native DV editing and uses a special version of In-Sync's SpeedRazor software.

I assume you're trying to choose an editing system, and it's pretty much impossible to offer intelligent advice without having a better idea of your editing needs (type of projects, quality needed, importance of getting real-time effects if you do pro editing and charge by the hour, etc.) and your budget.

there is a new online editing system that mirrors avid and adobe, but instead of buying it you get a monthly subscription www.videofarm.com
