AM Radio

For those Y2K news-hounds: AM radio travels further than FM (FM = line of sight; AM bounces off the stratosphere and down). There are some very stong AM Stations in the USA/World. AM radio people are more experienced in reporting news, have good emergency experience and have a broad spectrum of talk/news than FM.

In today's mail, I recieved a flyer from Radio Shack. They were offering (on sale for August) a high-powered AM/FM radio for $39.95 (norm $59.99). The C Crane costs $159.00. This may be a low-cost alternative.

Thought it may be of interest as far as Y2K News, emergency news and during the rollover (roll-over = when you hit that bump in the road and roll over!

I listen to Chuck Harder on the radio. You may find his web site by that name or Through the People which is his network. If you can't hear him on the radio, you can pick him up via real audio on the computer. I have learned so much from him and his guests about y2k, solar disturbances ahead, etc. He is selling products he has totally checked out. He has a solar radio and a hand crank radio. He also has for sale a multi-media set up using solar panels. He also has a hand crank lantern. I have his solar powered lantern, kinda neat. On order is a flashlight that creates energy for power by skaking back and forth. We already had the Baygen hand crank radio, but it only has am/fm. The ones he sells have short wave too. We have the baygen radio now stored in the metal can.

I have a perfectly good AM/FM radio in the Dogmobile, (old power wagon) and a brand new 1000 CCA battery and side-band CB radio in it. I will use the money I would have spent on a Baygen, or a solar radio on something more important... food, water containers, heat.... The Dogmobile get lousy gas mileage, so it will be the communcation link. The 60 gallons of gasoline it holds should last a while if it only runs to charge the battery. I have a duplicate battery in the garage on a wooden stand.

snoozin' on the porch...
