Hi Gang,

I'm a GI lurker who needs some good, solid Y2k info to give to a receptive but somewhat skeptical relative. Articles and other data that support preparation and demonstrate missed deadlines, backpedalling, the PR initiative, etc.. Pile it on. I'm sure others could use this too. Or if it's been done, be so kind as to provide a link to the appropriate thread.

btw: this person works for a University where their testing has crashed the entire network twice, and is behind schedule. Her b.s. detector is going off and she needs to know the larger scheme of things.

thanks

Stimpy

Here is a link to one part of the big picture. It is a bit dated (April) but has Loads of information. I bet most of the regulars here haven't read this one.

And here is the  report that is (IMHO) one of the most significant  pointing out risk in the Chemical Industry. From March.

Also a list of links that will help you find almost anything on Y2K.

Can anyone provide the link to the Vanity Fair article? Can't seem to find it.

Here it is (thanks Brian! I found it through one of your links)

Vanity Fair article (Jan 99)

-- Arnie Rimmer (Arnie_Rimmer@usa.net), August 04, 1999.

when the first DGI I knew suddenly became intrested in being a GI and asked me for printouts, books, and other y2k information, jumped through hoops to provide all I could. That took time and a lot of research. By the time the third DGI asked, I got wise. I was doing all the work and the last two who asked for all that research did not even read all of it, or start preparing. Now I tell people to just put y2k in the search engine and go from there. I mean, how hard is to to learn about y2k, good or bad if you are really interested?

Although it's now just a bit dated, tonight is the first time I've read all the way through the Vanity Fare article. If that one doesn't open their eyes just a little then they are a lost cause anyway. Despite all the fixes, the sheer magnitude should be overwhelming to someone just starting to see the whole picture.
