Systematize the Surveys?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The collective "wisdom" or "knowledge" of this group is compelling, yet it seems to be lost over time; I see new posters appearing every day. Moreover, some of the surveys are the most interesting of all (like the age and location of posters and lurkers, the most easily overlooked preparation, etc) I have had this notion that maybe a couple of collective efforts might help consolidate useful information. Since everybody has their opinion about what should be consolidated, I thought that we might first compare notes on what would be nice to know or have in one place. Once the lingering issues are out on the table, people could start posting the surveys and questions that seem most pertinent or useful. By illustration, I wouldn't mind asking the following questions at some point:

(1) What is your most compelling quote that would help illustrate y2k to the un-initiated. (Possibly something from the IEEE letter, a Bennett testimony, etc.)

(2) If you could give 1-3 documents to a DGI to try to alert them, what would they be? (Of course, websites would be key.)

Does anybody have any other questions to ask, support for a given question posed, or opinion about this whole convoluted idea? A reminder, I'm not yet looking for answers to my questions, only which issues would be worth a survey.

Dave--I don't know if there are new posters posting here because it's easy to keep changing your handle so you just never know who wrote or answered a thread. Aside from that, I would probably give some material written by Gary North to a DGI if I were new to Y2K myself. Since I am not new to it, I really don't care who gets it or who doesn't. As we draw nearer to December 31, 1999, and if nothing dramatic has happened, it will be business as usual. ITSHTF people will become educated over night as to what it's all about. That's when the real fun begins. I'm not quite sure what your asking survey wise. We've already done the scale of 1-10, etc. What I am interested in on this forum is good up-to-the-minute information on Y2K failures, stock market information, and any information that would show a trend towards what my gut is telling me. Polls here are not accurate because there's no way to monitor the accuracy of it.
