Have you started gathering your meds yet?

I take .1 Levoxyl (for my underactive thyroid), and while it wouldn't kill me to do without, I'd like to have it available. Yesterday I went to my ear doctor and casually asked if he would write me a prescription for it. I was hoping not to have to explain why I wanted it, since he knows my GP prescribes it for me. No problem. I now have a prescription at one pharmacy, where my insurance pays for part of it, and another prescription at another pharmacy where I will pay for the whole thing. By December I should have about a year's supply built up (unless in a few weeks the pharmacy questions why I need a refill so soon). I'm sure this little ploy would have been much more difficult if I had needed a controlled substance, but I feel good about this easy victory.

Another place to get meds is thru the VA. I've got several frienad who get meds thru them in addition to the ones from theis local doctor. And the stuff shows up in the mail. And it's cheap.

starting some time ago, i began working on building up my meds. i now have about a three month stash of my blood pressure and blood sugar meds.

at my last physical i discussed y2k with my doc (starting out with bill schenker's great mini-medical-manual). he wrote me scrips for painkillers, antibiotics and a few others for emergencies. he seemed to be glad i was thinking along those lines. BTW he mentioned he already had his generator .

My huband's doc thinks Y2K is a bunch of hooie but he still wrote him a script doubling his dosage so that every month he could stash half the Rx. Ask..most docs want to keep you happy....'sides, docs aren't the richies they used to be and they need their clients!

My wife has some fairly serious medical problems and fortunately is a GI. She's been diligently stockpiling meds for quite a while now, refilling at the earliest possible opportunity and maximum amount. We've got almost 45 days stockpiled so far and are working with our providers to improve this.

I posted on this earlier, but for those who "need" their meds (life or death), consider a trip to Mexico. You can legally bring three bottles of whatever Rx over the border (per person). I picked up one bottle of Covera HS (blood pressure) for a relative. It was a three month supply amount in one bottle, cost about 33.00, and a one month supply here costs my sister about 26.00 for her share of the payment (insurance paying the rest). I'm going to pick up three more bottles for her, and that will be a year's supply right there. You can buy and bring back pain killers (Tylenol #3 etc) if you bring over your own empty prescription bottle from the States and put your pills in that empty bottle. Amoxicillin for kids (the pink stuff) was only 5.00. Gentamycin eyedrops only a few dollars. My e-mail is legit, write me if you want the name of the pharmacy I went to, the owner speaks good English and was very helpful.

Yes. Buy less than 30 days apart; expect to have 60 days by year end... (Coumadin)

Yes to Mad Monk. Again, most 30 day type insurances will accept a rebill after 21 days. Do it!

Sadly, many patients I've been preaching to since January are just now asking for *early* refills. It's August!

Stocking up for personal use isn't hoarding. Hoarding is for profit. Stocking up is for survival. You'ld think that would be an easy sell here in earthquake country but DGIs come in flavors.

Sorry about the ranting. Must be bedtime.
