I work for Fujifilm in Brazil. I'm an electronic engineer and I'm in charge of technical training. In one of our internal bulletins, I've read about Flash Pix.

I tested a flash pix file with Adobe Photoshop 5.0 andd with Paint Shop Pro 5, but unfortunately I couldn't notice any difference regarding processing speed, when comparing to a TIFF file, for example. How can I see and demonstrate the advantages of Flash Pix Format? Which software? Which kind of image?

First of all, I don't think that PhotoShop 5.0 and PSP5 are Flashpix-enabled s/w. They do recognize the format but I am not sure if they take full advantage of its features. In any case, you can try to save a really huge image (say 4000x4000 pixels) in uncompressed TIFF and FlashPix and then try to edit it. I would recommend getting a demo copy of LivePictures' software or Microsoft Picture It! 99 since they are FlashPix-optimized apps.

You can try to read a fpx image with LivePicture plug-in; we can read a pano no-compressed 12000x1600 tot:70Mb fpx in 3 seconds. This is the very revolution !! but only a few people understand this. We cannot test a software for the manage and the plug-in for photoshop do not offer plus speed capacity. bye Fabio
