WOODSTOCK 99 the last time??

Did anybody catch the MTV review of Woodstock 99? There were some interesting comments on the civilness and demeaner of the crowd over a 3 day period. I guess there was a small problem with getting water and the facilities were few. At the end of the concert there was a riot and security informed the MTV crew that they could no longer guarentee their(mtv) safety. Now just imagine a large city with no running water after about 3 days. Comparison? Maybe? Probably a nice case study for some sociologists.

1.) Anyone who has ever been to Woodstock knows it IS a camping experience. There was free water but you had to walk a little further past the stands that sold the expensive water.

2.) It wasn't on the original site of Woodstock, which was on a large expanse of farmland where people could roam free. But on the AFB in NY it was asphalt and fanced in on all sides. It was hot, and there was no where to run baby, no where to hide.

3.) Nobody was forced to buy the expensive food and water, again, it was commonly known that Woodstock is a camping experience in which you bring your OWN supplies. You know, dependent on no one, free in the world, indebted only to God? Free love, share what you have, etc.

I did see the MTV interview and my thoughts are this:

It wasn't really "Woodstock", it was just a big concert with the same name. I've been to the original Woodstock and also to the Town Of Woodstock in New York and there was no comparrison to W99. But your right in one regard, it was only a few hundred knuckleheads that caused such a big disturbance in a crowd of tens of thousands. That fact along ought to cause concern in people that no matter how many good friends you have living around you it would only take ten or twenty to really ruin things in the event of a disaster.

Also, I think all further Woodstock festivals ought to be cancelled. If they want to have a big concert on the same weekend as the W'69 festival then fine, but call it something different. After all, IT IS something different now.

The most ironc part of the woodstock 99 farce was that the fires got started by people handed "Peace" candles by a gun control group. Candles don't burn people, people do.....

I have heard thru a friend who has relatives that were working at Woodstock 99 about the water/food situation. When moving from the camping area to the performance area people had to pass thru a gate. At this gate, people were told that they could bring in nothing. Once inside, there were stands at which water, drink, and food were being sold. A pint of water was 4$. It was very hot there. To get to your supplies (IF you had brought any, please remember these are 15-25 year old kids/people [majority] that went to this) you would have to leave the performance area (of 200,000 people), walk back to your tent, cook/eat/drink, then walk back. All the while, the show is still goin g on. Now after paying 150$ for a ticket, I would not want to miss ANY of the show. So, I would plan on buying food and drink while inside. A major point of contention was the PRICE for water alone... Definetly a bit ridiculous wouldn't you agree??? (unless you're a money-grubbing, greedy snake)
