Four dead at a brokerage house where shooter did business. He then went across the street to another brokerage center and killed five others.

Police know the identity of the shooter. They are still searching for him. Don't know if he is still in one of the buildings or has fled.

There are 3 or 4 large buildings in the immediate area.

remember when i said, earlier this week, that we'd better hope that nothing happened this week that was newsworthy if we were to see the cbs sunday morning story about y2k?

well, with this tragedy, do you think it'll be delayed or cancelled again, so they can devote the whole show to reshow scenes from columbine etc, etc and revisit the issues of gun control, while cleverly missing any ties to a possible market drop due to y2k and this nutcase that did this?

there's always something "more important" than y2k....until y2k gets here, and people will wonder why they didn't see more....

i'm not saying this tragedy isn't newsworthy. i'm saying they don't need to take up the *whole show and not discuss the tragedy that could be y2k

Yes, I know what you mean SuperLurker. Until y2k directly effects these news people they will continue to ignore it.

The Mayor of Atlanta was just interviewed and he said it 'could' and I say could be related to bad investments in the stock market.

According to some witnesses the gunman had been having some problems with down swings in the market.

There are still people trapped in the buildings and the police are going from floor to floor.

Another crime sceen about 30 miles from this one. Police saying it seems to be related to this one. CNN reporting they don't know how yet.

That would be 'scene' for the spellcheck police.;-)

Quote on CBS Evening News from one of the fund managers: "He lost a lot of money, and apparently he snapped."

Just looked like a typo to me, flb.

I think everyone on this forum should contact the three major TV networks en masse, and protest the wall to wall hash and rehash of tragedies of the rich and famous, tragedies at schools, etc., and let us hear some real news about real events that real people are interested in. As Senator Hollings said on C Span today, the "free press" isn't free anymore. It's nothing more than an entertainment business and real news suffers.

Just head that the guy also killed his wife and two children. Geeze!

gilda,

I saw most of the Senator's speech today, and was very glad to hear him say what he did about the media. So true!

yeah, this is sad.... this has nothing to do with the economy, or the market, or y2k.

this is a wacko with a gun.

-- SuperLurker (Slfsl@yahoo.com), July 29, 1999.

The guy is a day trader, who apparently hasn't been very happy with the market. At least during the depression, people killed 'themselves'. This isn't a very good example to be setting prior to the rollover.

Ok now SHEEPLE. Watch the gory details. See all the coverage. Watch the body bags. One by one.

See the SWAT teams All dressed in black. Guns at the ready. Going floor to floor and around the back.

Hear the talking heads making cooing sounds. Another tragedy will make all the talk show rounds.

Watch the pretty coverage. See the in depth analysis. Understand the madness. Feel the darkness.

You sheeple are so god damn dumb. Your lives are in danger and you don't even know it.

Will Continue- Excellent point. If the markets don't hold, I don't think anyone wants to see what things may be like come December (or sooner). Problems with the public reaction may be the biggest crisis we face.

-- Gia (laureltree@hotmail.com), July 29, 1999.

This massacre has terrible timing, seeing as so many people are about to lose all their money, and such crimes often lead to copycat events. At least in '29 when it was raining men in Wall St., they could get the windows open to top themselves. Now they can't, so they'll pursue other options. The phrase "to go postal" might be replaced by "to go mutual", or something like that. "To go dot.com" maybe? Woe. And I hate murder/suicides - possibly the lowest of crimes.

Gordon your an asshole

Snap, crackle, pop.

Soon more will drop.

This will not stop.

More tears to mop.

Looks like a pretty good example of what can happen when someone who is involved with something to an extreme finally snaps.

I wonder if this will wake up any of the 10+ y2k nutcases.

Rather than simply renting a hotel room ("Would you like that for sleeping or jumping" a la 1929) he needs someone ELSE to blame for his misfortune, so he blames the traders in the brokerage. can't take responsibility for his losses, because it "CAN'T BE MY fault".
Gotta find SOMEONE ELSE to BLAME.
How 1990's. C

Chuck,

I couldn't agree more. That is exactly what I said to my husband. But NO, he had to take everybody with him - including his own babies. What a pathetic piece of crap!

THis will accellerate the assault on the 2nd amendment. And NOT haveing the option of fire arms if things go bad on the double zero's makes me uneasy. Now would be an outstanding time to call your congress-critter and complain that you don't want to be a sitting duck if a nut show up at your job with a gun so s/he had better push for a national must issue concealed carry law.

Glad I took fencing.

Watch six and keep your...
