The Solution to Y2K

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It is with great pleasure that I present here, absolutely free of charge, The Solution to Y2K.

It is really so profoundly simple, that it will work. Forever. This IS the Silver Bullet for Y2K. No workshops to attend, no books to buy, no long term food storage products to buy, no offshore investments to consider, nothing, nada, zip. This solution is free to all, and all people worldwide can instantly grasp and employ it, with guaranteed results. It's simplicity is it's genius. It is magic.

Here is The Solution to Y2K: Switch to a 13-month calendar. That's it. Nothing more. Just get everyone to agree to switch to the 13 month, 28 day, with one day left over, calendar.

After all, doesn't the moon cycle every 28 days? Shifting the ENTIRE OCEAN, several feet, each day? Is not the natural woman's cycle in harmony with this?

Yet, we, homo sapiens, consumer, are the only living thing inhabiting this planet and deliberately ignoring, even confusing the whole cycle, by keeping track of time using a weird calendar, shifting the moons cycle about, adding days here and there, taking days away and so on. Is not the whole Y2K problem about how we keep track of what day or month or year it is?

So, it's so simple, switch to a thirteen-month year, with one day left over to party or whatever. 28 days each month, every month, every year. No more leap years. We will awaken to the energies available to us, to the other 90 percent of our brains, and evolve into the love children we were meant to be.

August 13th, 1999 is the beginning of the new year, according to one account of the 13-month year.

This is the window we have, the opportunity to step through into the next level of consciousness. A mass awakening to the falsehood of the 12 month year, coupled with an integrated effort to begin using the 13 month year, will create a shift of consciousness that will change a fundamental flaw in our world view today.

That flaw also has to do with how we keep track of time; that is the concept that "Time is Money" Our values are in that realm, "Time is Money". The new consciousness will shift to "Time is Art".

"TIME IS ART"

The art of living. The art of building, growing, cooking, fixing, traveling, leading, following. Not for a fee anymore, but rather as an expression of our individual and collective talent. Our gifts. Some musicians, some repairmen, builders, growers, whatever. All expressing ourselves, our art. Not for profit or money, but for the art of it. Think of the quality!

No more whipping Mother Earth into submission, with us as the cruel master, using and abusing. No, more. Instead, by getting in harmony with the rest of the universe, harmony with our Mother Earth will come naturally.

All it will take is for a critical mass of people to agree, all at once, on one simple principle, The Solution to Y2K: The 13 month year.

How about you? Does this make sense to you? If so, start talking about it everywhere. Tell everyone. Shout it from the rooftops! The Solution to Y2K: The 13-month year.

Believe in it. Prepare to integrate it into YOUR life.

Spread the word. This must come from the ground up. It must be done willingly by a large enough mass to effect the shift. How many? Who knows, all the more reason to get on with it. Tell everyone. Start now. This is the only hope I can see in the whole mess. Otherwise, we are in for a long ride, I am sure.

Good luck, and God Bless you,

Yes, of course, absolutely it will work!

But ... but ... what do we NAME it? And how could we get everyone to agree on a name in the time remaining? I don't think we can. Darn.

Great idea, though, would have taken care of the whole Y2K shebang, no question. Yep, right as rain, that would have done it. Yep, yep.

"For lack of a name, a world was lost."

So instead of rewriting all of that code to recognise two extra digits we only have to change EVERY SINGLE METHOD OF TRACKING THE YEAR AROUND THE GLOBE AND HAVE EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY AGREE ON IT IN 156 DAYS OR LESS?

Wow! Why didn't anyone else think of that?

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), July 29, 1999.

The idea is the cooresponding shift in conciousness. That is the key. All these mental gymnastics, trying to figure it all out has worn me out. How about you? I am really ready to move into a solution. Have you got a better one? I am very serious about this. It is our hope, as a species. Try to think in terms of something new, rather than hanging on to something old. Let go.

-- Tim Castleman (aztc@earthlink.net), July 29, 1999.

If Julius had come up with this idea instead perhaps male doctors would realize that it takes 13 cycles of BC's to get through a year. Save me a bunch of phone calls.

I hope you aren't offended, but this suggestion is breathtakingly stupid. The problem is not what people think the date is, but what computer programs think the date is. Unless you can come up with some way to convince these computer programs to adopt your new calendar, you're not going to get very far with your suggestion.

-- Steve Heller (stheller@koyote.com), July 29, 1999.

>"The problem is not what people think the date is, but what computer >programs think the date is"

I disagree, first computers don't "think", second, the problem IS what people think the date is. That is my whole point. Our screwy time keeping is what got is into this mess in the first place. Many seem to agree we are headed into upheaval anyway, what I am suggesting is that we take full advantage of it and take the next evolutionary step. EVERY LIVING THING on this planet is in harmony with it, EXCEPT humans. Think about it. It is also breathtakingly stupid to have put so much dependence on mindless machines! The only offence I take is to the unwillingness to THINK, to GROW and to CHANGE the way we live on this planet. Those who insist on "Fixing" the existing destructive way we live, desperate to hang on to the convenience of it all, are the REAL problem. In less than 200 years we have destroyed more of this earth's life than all the previous thousands of years. Please try not to dismiss something just because it seems so radical. Please try to think it through. Close your eyes and imagine an economy of art instead of money. Imagine doing what you love to do, and being fully recompensed for it with the support of all of your neighbors, because they are all doing what they love to do. Each of us has been given talents that we don't even know about yet, because the false time keeping has us shut off from the rest of the universe. When we open ourselves to that energy, miracles will happen. And it is SO simple, switch to the 13-month year.

Tim,

I agree that in the "scheme of things," a switch to a 13 month calendar makes a lot of sense. I've actually thought that for a long time. And, I'm fairly certain that in the march towards globalism, this is something that will happen eventually. Like the idea of switching to metric in this country, the biggest barriers are cultural.

However, we have a problem now, that we have about five months remaining to solve. That's why we're all here, and concerned. I would imagine that reprogramming "the machinery that runs society" to keep track of things using a 13-month calendar would be a "bigger IT challenge" than Y2K, the Euro, and GPS combined. And, in five months?

Ain't gonna happen.

Yes, homo sapiens confuse things, and do many things against the cycles and rythms of nature. An old story. However, seeing a clear and simple solution to the problems we create for ourselves, does not necessarily mean that they will be clear and simple in their implementation. Also, shifts in consciousness can't be willed, they happen at their own pace. There isn't the critical mass needed to make this shift, and there won't be in the next two weeks.

I think you need to think this through a little more, and you'll realize that the value in this is not as a Y2K solution. It can't be done in the time remaining...

I agree with Steve. Unless you can come up with some way to convince these computer programs to adopt your new calendar, you're not going to get very far with your suggestion.

You'll also need to convince management, so count on numerous committee meetings to discuss the ramifications, resources and benefits involved. Good intentions, but let's face reality. If you're talking about a medium large corporate entity with multiple locations, forget it...it will take months to reach a consensus.

Wouldn't it be much simpler to slow down the moon's orbital speed to 30 days (a simple matter of causing the moon to cruise in a slightly higher orbit), and reduce the year to a 360 day year by speeding up the earth's orbit around the sun by moving the earth a little closer to the sun? Then nobody would have to learn the name of a new month. We could also have a new poem, "30 days hath September, and all the months including December, it's so easy to remember".

True, the weather would get a little warmer, the days a little brighter, the nights a little darker, but think how much the human race would be advanced by not having to remember how many days there are this month!

Gosh, this would make a great government project.

Exactly how does Tim's "solution" prevent the calenday turning over to 2000?
