Wakeup call for Mr. Decker

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Decker, on an earlier thread, you asked for proof of my various citations that pollys are in denial. I believe other posters backed me up on all of them with the exception of my claim that "Society is in the worst shape since the fall of Rome". So I offer the following:

After writing that post last night, I happened to catch a snippet of the Howard Stern show on the E! cable network while channel surfing. A young lady, who Stern was referring to as "lesbo", was in her bra and panties and Stern was saying he wanted to "do her". She then pulled her underwear off and urinated into a box of cat litter while a group of men cheered her on.

I don't mean to sound "boorish", but in your book, does that qualify as evidence?

And BTW, I'm eagerly waiting your reply on these other threads:

For Decker: Another reason the Y2K economic downturn will be worse than the 30's

Y2K Economics 101 for Decker

"a", was her employment history discussed at all? Specifically, was mudwrestling brought up as a previous or possible vocation??

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.com), July 28, 1999.

That's nothing a.

Last night I watched transfixed as some guy named Benny Hinn smacked people on the forehead and healed their illnesses! Then these folks swooned and fell down on the floor! And you think a peeing lesbo is bad TV?

What channel was that again?

I wrote this a while back for someone who didn't see society as I did (I feel it's falling apart). It was written off the top of my head and included only what came to mind at the time.

Some of the examples in my list are specific and some are in general. I could expand on these and my list would no longer be as short. I could also give many more examples but these are the ones (which I'm willing to make public) that come to mind at the moment. Some of the examples can be contributed to population growth but regardless, they have an effect on society. Some may not appear to be government related but actually are (due to the side effects of government actions).

With all that being said, here is my *short* list of examples:

Filth being permitted on TV (ie South Park, etc), Cartoons/Movies supposedly aimed towards children which contain adult material, hidden messages, hidden pictures, sexual inuendo's, etc., Increasing lack of respect towards parents/adults by children, Increasing number of single parents (the commitment of marriage doesn't mean much nowadays), Increase in the lack of family structure (divorce), A welfare program which doesn't work, People who would rather live of the system (welfare, etc.) instead of work, Increase in homosexuality (yep, I'm against it), Increase in acceptance of homosexuality, An adulterer & liar for a president, People accepting/supporting the fact that the president is a adulterer and a liar, Individuals stating publicly that they felt the President had committed high crimes and misdemeanors yet voted not to impeach him, Increase in adultery and it's acceptance, Scandals/Corruption in the government, People rioting/killing over such things as sporting events, rock concerts, etc., The taking of a life (murder) of trivial things such as shoes, jackets, colors (gang), etc., Kids being recruited into gangs as early as the beggining years of elementry school, Increase in witchcraft, satanism, cults, etc., Children sadistically killing other children, Children sadistically injurying other children (catching them on fire, etc), Children raping/molesting other children, Parents killing their children, Children killing their parents, Parents divorcing their kids, Kids divorcing their parents, Increase in teen pregnancies, Preachers molesting children, Increase in gangs and gang violence, Taxes (on average we are currently losing about 50% of our income to taxes), Increase in prison populations, Increase in violence on TV, Religion being taken out of the schools, Termination of the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, Removing the word "God" from the Pledge of Allegience, Increase in number of children being raised by daycares/babbysitters because of single parents/both parents having to work to "make it", Increase in materialism, An outragously high national debt which will probably continue to increase and will probably never be reduced to a reasonable level, 2nd Ammendment slowly being eliminated, Judiciary sytem is being made a mockery of by high paid lawyers and incompetent judges, Successful lawsuits which are utterly rediculous, American troops taking an oath to serve our country and then being forced to serve under other nations, Blatent lies by the government to the American people (besides the Clinton/Lewenski thing), Kids being "pushed" through school without learning the fundamentals of education, Increase in sexual pervisions (ie pedophilia, bestiality, etc), Decrease in basic human kindness, People turning their backs on people in need, Increase in selfishness & greed, Religion is now so divided you can't tell what is right and what is wrong (in relation to churches and what is taught there), Decrease in basic morales & values, Increase in lack of respect for others, Increasing number of incidents in which people aren't held responsible for their actions, Deterioration of the earths environment, Increasing dependence on foreign trade, Partial birth abortions (murder), Mandatory/forced abortions (forced murder), thousands of children missing each year (I believe the statistics show that it's in the 10's of thousands), Increase in number of homeless people, Increase in number of starving people, Increasing number of teenage runaways, Increase in self destructive behaviour, Self mutilations (going overboard with such things as body piercings and tattoos), Loss of government credibility, Increase of corruption in businesses/industries, Increase in number of bizzare crimes, Abuse of certain freedoms being allowed while other freedoms are slowly being taken away, Lack of parental supervison/discipline, etc, etc, etc.

"A"

I have enjoyed a long weekend away from the Internet and missed your threads. Of course, I will delighted to respond. Helping the economically-challenged is always a priority. It might take some time, however, because I am brushing up on my Great Depression history starting with David Kennedy's excellent tome.

Is this thread asking if Howard Stern invented debauchery? No, I am afraid not. Old wine in new bottles.

Regards,

-- Mr. Decker (kcdecker@worldnet.att.net), July 29, 1999.

Kenney....ROTFLOL!!!! Lookin' for kleenex!

Tick Tock.... Point well made. Disturbing and all too true.

Decker.... It is a lower case 'a', you bag of hot air. I don't know how you find time to work between posting on a 'variety' of different sites and all the impressive reading you do. Must be that tough Montana farmer upbringing you had. Whatever.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), July 29, 1999.

Will,

On a complex subject like the economics of the Great Depression, I think it wise to actually research the topic before posting. This does take more time than a simple a personal attack... particularly because the books I read have very few pictures.

Regards,

-- Mr. Decker (kcdecker@worldnet.att.net), July 29, 1999.

Oh how goshe of you Mr. Decker

To asume that none but you find the time or inclination to read about history either in general; or in a particular era. I rather enjoy the actual old west myself. But I peruse other eras was well. But then I am an old shirt tailed electrican who supposedly has half of an education and less sence....But every now and then there is an exception to the rule (As Mr Poole so thoughtfully pointed out over on the csy2k forum..a three legged dog is an exception to the rule).

How some ever is is indeed nice to see that you are back sir.

Hey Decker, have you ever heard of an Economist that got fired for being WRONG!!

] It's the only profession I know that is EXPECTED to be WRONG!!

Tally Ho, Your Pal, Ray

-- Ray (ray@totacc.com), July 29, 1999.

"Shakey,"

I have spent time doing "real" work. Growing up on a ranch in Montana, I earned my callouses. Working in "the woods" and time in the U.S. military helped me through college. And while I am far from a journeyman, I've had a hand in residential and commercial wiring jobs. Actually, the electricians seem to have it pretty easy compared some trades.

"Will,"

Do you want quotes from "Justine, the Philosophy of the Bedroom and Other Writings," or "The 120 Days of Sodom" by Marquis de Sade? Or do you have these on your bookshelf already? Lest you think "sin" was invented during the late 1700s, we can roll back to any era of written history and find acts of depravation. If you are of a Biblical mind, perhaps the story of Sodom and Gomorrah rings a bell. Do you really want a scholarly article on how Howard Stern did not invent lewd behavior? Or will you settle for a reading list (starting with the Bible)?

Ray,

Yes, I know of economists who have been fired for being wrong. In the real world, "wrong" means losing money. Lose money... and you go.

Regards,

-- Mr. Decker (kcdecker@worldnet.att.net), July 29, 1999.

'a' and Tick Tock,

You are right. Society is in a poor shape. Some of the answers that came back to your input prove that.

It seems such a shame to me that so much effort is put into advancing us technoligically and so little into advancing our humanity. Have you noticed how people are so quick to quote what the past had to provide and wish to continue as such. Not the same with technology. We are supposed to prefect it and perfect it. Wouldn't it be nice if we could take the same approach in other areas of our lives.

People are more than willing to discuss all about sports, sex, cars, materialistic things up the kazoo. There are very few and far between discussions and contemplation as to how we act and behave and treat the planet that we live on and off. Good grief, if you dare wish to discuss such things you get treated like a lunatic.

Howard Stern is just a tiny example of how low an ever increasing amount have chosen to go. It's all about choices and the effect they have. There is a lot of evidence surrouding us that the choices being made are having a very negative impact on society. If you surround yourself with such negative stimuli and behavior you can only but sink down to the lowest common denominator along with everyone else.

I truly despair at times trying to bring children up in this totally out of control society that we live in. They are being influenced by very bad choices made by some that so many just have no control over.

-- Disgusted (truly@stern.com), July 29, 1999.

Book list Decker? Stabbing at my education *again*? Oh, pa-lease. I do not need to read a book to figure out that our current society is in really big trouble. Apparently you do. You've stated that you grew up on a *farm* in Montana and now it's a *ranch*? Having been raised in ranching, and being a 5th generation native of Wyoming, I think you should know that there is a tremendous difference between farmers and ranchers. Which is it, Decker? You also implied I was a liar once for having posted the fact that my great, great grandparents had a 'bug-out' cave they would retreat to, with their children, in times of Indian unrest. You suggested you were not aware of any caves in the area (Rocky Mountain? WHAT?).

It becomes more and more evident to me, that you simply don't know whether you're shot, powder burnt, f***ed or snake bit. But then, I have no degree. Feel free to point this fact out in you're *next* post as well. (three's a charm)

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), July 29, 1999.

OK

Time to chime in on something that bugs the hell out of me.

It doesn't take a college education to see that Ray and Will Continue art two of the biggest blowhards ever to inhabit this forum. Sorry if this statement hurts your feelings guys, no, scratch that, frankly I dont give a shit if this hurts your feelings or not, Ive always called em as I see em, and thats how I see em.

When one compares the civil, well thought out responses of Mr. Decker to the rabid, self-righteous, rantings and flaming of the above mentioned two, a degree in brain surgery is not needed to discern who is maintaining a thoughtful discourse on issues, and who is simply acting like the poster child Doom Zombie Mindless Attacker.

This mindless attacking behavior is an insult to thoughtful GIs. It is an affront to those of us who understand what is at risk, and who believe that the Pollys are not seeing the big picture.

But most of all, such attacks are a disgraceful course of action which leads borderline GIs to disassociate themselves from mindless fools who cannot debate a topic in a reasoned manner. Far from leading to thoughtful discourse and inclusion of those who remain on the fence, behavior such as that furthers the cause of the Doc. Paulies of the world, and weakens immeasurably the position of those of us who see the risks.

Shame on both of you.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), July 29, 1999.

Hey, how come you didn't put me on that list with Will continue and Ray?? I'm crushed!

Meannnnwhiiille, back at the ranch -- or maybe its a farm? -- I sure would be interested if Mr. Decker would answer the very direct questions posed by Will continue. I think someone's credibility -- and integrity -- is at stake.

Unc, as I indicated on another thread, time grows short my friend. You and Flinto and Hoffy will be babbling away when WDC is trying to figure out how to pay their welfare recipients.

Unc, please take time to read a few of the posts that have hit the forum this past week. Then WAKE UP and SMELL the COFFEE. Sir, we don't have time to listen to the Flints and Hoffs of the world any more. It's time to get DEAD serious you IDIOT.

Uncle Deedah.....if you have two visible puncture wounds, you are 'snake bit'. Anything else?

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), July 29, 1999.

Ray, I must remind myself to make only one or two short points at one time, lest you get lost.

Let me say this in response to your:

Unc, as I indicated on another thread, time grows short my friend. You and Flinto and Hoffy will be babbling away when WDC is trying to figure out how to pay their welfare recipients.

Ray,I cannot speak for Flinto and Hoffy, but it matters not to me whether or not I whack-off until the cows come home. My preps are handled *pal*, I'm 90+% finished with where I need to be.

What matters, to me, sometimes, is that I am getting tired watching Mr "Lets get back to serious discussions of preps" shoot his fool mouth off, calling people names, making unfounded accusations, and generally acting an idiot sounding jack-ass. For somebody who claims to care about getting others prepared, you spend an inordinate amount of time behaving as a person that no self-respecting newbie would care to associate with.

SO,

Whos payroll are you on Ray? Who is paying you to turn the stomachs of borderline GIs? Who is paying you to turn away those who need a place to call home? I must say, you are doing a fine job of it, Y2K Pro must be proud of you.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), July 29, 1999.

Come on, Uncle Dee.

For the most part I agree with your last post, but I'd wager that in years gone by, you were just like Ray, eh? We've both sat around *this* crackerbarrel long enough to know you've had your own innings. Righteous indignation doesn't wear well on you. :-)

Maybe newbies will pick up a few quick lessons on whose opinions to trust around here. If they fall for Flint and Decker's spew, they'll be cooked in the time remaining. Of course, anyone who is truely *new* to Y2K, in very nearly *AUGUST 1999*, ain't exactly a quick draw. So, I don't much care what they think of *my* opinions anyway.

THEY DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THOUGHTFUL, WELL MANNERED HOOPLA. They had better start thinking on their feet, and fast.

I've said my piece, I think that you have crossed into the counter- productive zone with the heavy handed flame wars. Forgive me for the inability to grasp how your behavior differs from that of the trolls you so vehemently dislike, if only that it comes from the other side of the fence. How much longer are you going to wrestle in the mud with pigs?

Uncle Dee,

Nah. It's a good day for both of us. Your response was most gracious. The waiting is almost over, and as the time grows short, so does one's patience when kids like Ray and Will are running around your ankles screaming and shouting. Are we about to experience the thrill of our lives, or an anti-climax?

Okay, kids, quiet down now. We understand. :-)

The only difference between 'em is that you knew ahead of time that Benny HILL was a comic.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), July 30, 1999.

If there was a "dig" in my post, "Will," it was more subtle than suggesting you are illiterate. I'll let you puzzle it out. By the way, please show me the post where I described my family's home as a "farm." (I really don't recall describing it as such.) If you must know, we had a mammoth garden, but did not grow "crops." We ran a small herd cattle (and raised the other usual critters.) In point of fact, the family business is logging and has been since the last century.

As I recall, I said my family had never hid in caves. Yours apparently did. In my home county, there are more abandoned mine shafts than true caves... and damn few of those. Having hunted and fished my country for a couple of decades, I think I have a fair knowledge of the place. Of course, you can suggest you know my section of the Rockies better than I do... but then you would be, in the parlance of Montana, talking out your ass.

Frankly, Will, you could have more degrees than a thermometer. A formal education does not make a person better... or worse. Common sense and common courtesy are far more important than any "sheepskin." Unfortunately, you do not value good manners nor do you assume any measure of responsibility for your behavior. So be it. Please understand, however, that my lack of respect for you is not based on your education level, but on your behavior.

"Spain," please. Lecturing me on credibility and integrity? Were the nightly mud wrestling matches cancelled?

Ray, don't worry. You have never hurt my feelings. And if you need advice on preparations, you just have to ask.

Uncle D, don't let the forum jesters drag you down. There's room for good discussion on Y2K. I do appreciate the thought. Thanks.

Regards,

-- Mr. Decker (kcdecker@worldnet.att.net), July 30, 1999.

Thank you sir for a thumb nail personal history, I did my time on the XYZ ranch and my uncle's Shebano ranch, both in Texas, and Pool's oil well service as a kid, the mil...1st Force Recon during the South East Asian war games. The college; G.E.D. then two years Electrical engineering and four years I.B.E.W. apprentice ship...And sir, having the experience of a cub, none of it on heavy industrial. Does not make an athority, nor even a beginner. ....But I still like your style sir. And throughly enjoy your posts (when you stay on those subjects you know) not try ad make others believe you know. Unc, I'll leave this thread and ask you once more, what's YOUR contribution been????????

Your Pal, Ray

-- Ray (ray@totacc.com), July 30, 1999.

Thanks for clearing that up Decker, sort of. Once again, you twist the written word. Fathers? My Father returned from the Korean conflict and enrolled at Colorado State University......he wasn't often surprised by Indian attack, in fact, he worked with the Wind River Indian Reservation as a Veterinarian in addition to his years of ranch management. I need no lesson from you, mister manners. I , unlike you, do not react to every single person who crosses my path with the same level of goo. That would simply be dishonest and covert.

Unc Dee suggests I am a troll. I choose my trolling carefully. The fact that my, "calling it, like I see it", doesn't agree with his version, is irrelevent. I look past people's veils, he admires them. "What a lovely, well mannered veil you have, sir". I tend to 'call' people on the veil they use, like Eddie Haskell.

You see Mr. Decker, the advantage to using slippery words, is that you can slide in any direction needed. You, Flint and politicians are well versed in this artform. I'll save my kindness and soft spoken manners for those I deem worthy. You need to get out into the real world more often.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), July 30, 1999.

Uncle Deedah,

so am I to take it that this IMPOSTOR, this Benny Hinn, also has a slaphead that he chastises on every show, and a posse of Hinn's Angels that he chases around in fast motion???

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), July 30, 1999.

Nice to have you home Andy. I didn't want to make a scene about missing you, on your first few threads. You know how 'some' people talk around here! :)

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), July 30, 1999.

Let 'em talk Will, now what time did you say that hubby was out...

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), July 30, 1999.

Ray, pointing out your foolishness was a finer I do today than I have ever done.

But in case you are serious, I am just about talked out regarding preps and such, and leave it to the fresh and vigorous young pups to do most of that now. Pups like you Ray, which I guess is why I get so disappointed when you act in a manner that proves the point of fools like Y2K Pro: "Those doomers are so dumb they resort to name calling instead of factual debate." As you are one of the loudest voices calling for SERIOUS discussion of Y2K, I get angry when I see you fling mud with such reckless abandon.

Perhaps I've been here too long, I have always had a grumpy streak and the petty flaming bothers me more than it used too. But as Mr. Elbow Grease states, the wait will be over soon and we will see who was right or wrong before long.

Folks who have been at this subject for a long time will decide for themselves whether or not I have ever added anything of value here, but if anyone asks a question that I have an answer for I try to be helpful.

And finally to Will, you are not a troll, you are a rabid dog foaming away at the gate. Your hatred of Mr. Decker, among others, is a wondrous thing to watch.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), July 30, 1999.

Andy, I don't have time for a trip to England, but would Canada do? Tents? Coffee on the fire? Trout in the smoker? Cool, brisk, mornings fishing in a mirrored lake. Deafening, silence interrupted by the occasional call of an eagle overhead?

I sup-POSE I'll just remain here and help hubby repair the porch roof instead. Honor, loyalty and faithfulness aren't always much fun. Being practical stinks too.

CALGON......take me away! :)

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), July 30, 1999.

Thanks Unc. If you find your castle being stormed, you may unexpectedly be grateful for a few 'rabid dogs' at your gate, defending your position. You're a GI? Me tooooooooo. How about that? Who would you prefer coming to your rescue in a fire fight? A poet/politician who bounces back and forth between various camps.....or a loyal, brutally honest, rabid DOG? Choose wisely sir. This won't be a neighborhood "debate".

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), July 30, 1999.

Gosh, "Will," I guess it must be easy for you... since you apparently have a psychic ability to know the motives of others. Polite behavior is not a "veil." It's the way civilized people conduct day- to-day life. Once again, you attempt to justify your churlish behavior. If you bother talking to the folks who met me at the Virginia Y2K gathering, you'll learn that I am polite and well-spoken in person. But for you, it's easier to treat the people you disagree with like poorly-drawn cartoon characters.

"I'll save my kindness and soft spoken manners for those I deem worthy."

It's for people like you, "Will," fences were invented.

Uncle Dee... thanks again, but I think you effort is wasted. By the way, Will is wrong. Rabid dogs don't care who they bite.

You might revisit my post on fixed-position defense, Will. Ask someone who has gone in harm's way to evaluate it. Oh, and "Shakey," if you are still around... explain to "Mrs. Will" the difference between civilian trash talking and soldiering.

Regards,

-- Mr. Decker (kcdecker@worldnet.att.net), July 30, 1999.

I suggest Mr. Decker & Unc D should run as the Libertarian party candidates for President/Vice President in 2000. I'll leave it to the two of you to sort out the details. :)

BTW, I'd take either of them to watch my back over 99% of the posters on this forum. No contest.

Unc,

Wow! I'm speechless!! Ol' Ray doesn't realize you were posting on this BB when he was still running down the insides of his mamma's thigh. It's a shame when these children have no respect for us elders.

Ray? Check the posts that are over a year old and you'll find Unc's name all over the place.

Unc: I disagree. We (King, Ray, Will, etc) are simply engaging in a spirited debate with folks who we feel are condescending and ignorant. You do know the difference between book sense and common sense, right?

Decker claims that because Stern did not invent voyeurism, society ain't so bad off. I guess he will go off and research debauchery statistics for a few days and come back his "ejakated" opinion on why everything's OK. What he fails to realize, though, is the level to which this "lack of social discipline", for lack of a better word, now permeates this world, in large part due to mass media like Stern.

This is not a moral debate for me; it's simply a realization that things are a lot different than in the old days, and y2k will be the first crisis of significant proportion that we as a people are expected to confront sensibly. How will we react? That's the question.

Bingo, if you ever need a hand, you won't have to ask twice. Now, when do you think I ought to host a Mid-Atlantic Y2K gathering?

"a," there is a difference between spirited debate and mindless personal attacks. I enjoy debating the issues... not the personalities. Add to common sense, common courtesy and you have a winning combination. I find it a rich irony that you defend Spain, Will, etc., while you decry the vulgarity of modern society. The lack of civility practiced by Howard Stern is no different than the poor behavior here. You (and others) feel justified in your rude behavior. It exactly this attitude that makes modern America an uncivil place.

In addition, you miss my argument. The sense late 20th century America is a moral lowpoint in world history is simply inaccurate. On the other hand, I will not suggest we are the moral apex. There are no "old days," "a." As I said before, "Leave it to Beaver" was not a documentary. I can find atrocities in every decade of American history and writings that bemoan the "immorality" of times. With all due respect, "a," it's a matter of perspective.

"You're looking exceptionally lovely today, Mrs. Beaver. You appear far too young to be Wally's Mother."

Thanks for the good time, Decker! :)

Hey Beano, what happened, did Uncle Doo Doo just decide to stop contributing a year ago. Give me a break you numbskull, the only thing this TURKEY does is try to disrupt the forum.

Get a LIFE Beano !!

I do give Decker CREDIT for contributing to this forum, he has on many occassions offered excellent material.

Thank you, Ray. (Must have been my little post on the Leatherman "Wave.") [chuckle]

Save your "thanks for a good time," Will. It sounds like you may need to use that phrase elsewhere.

Mr. Decker: "Now, when do you think I ought to host a Mid- Atlantic Y2K gathering?"

Funny, I mentioned this as a possibility to Stan several weeks ago. Perhaps you could drop a note to him. I've no doubt you'd be a fine host.

I was truly saddened by the lack of turnout, by TB2000 posters, at the last get together. It seems the opportunity to meet you face-to- face turned many folks off. Or should I say scared them off? I know you were feeling quite a bit under the weather that day, yet you managed to drive several hours each way in order that we could meet in person. I'm still laughing from the Monty Python session!

Best Wishes,

Uncle Deedah-

I'd like to also commend you on your efforts to bring a little civility to this forum.

I have only been quick-browsing this forum as of late. (Better things to do than sit in front of my 'puter too much.) But when I have stopped by I have been pleasantly surprised when landing on a couple of threads here. Low and behold, a number of "GI" people are actually speaking out against the noise. I am really impressed. There has been "Chuck", "number six(?)", yourself, Bingo (as always) and a couple others I have noticed. AND I have noticed that the only people who typically object are those whom you are addressing your comments towards. (Indicates a lot of "silent agreement" with you on this forum.) Hey, who knows, maybe this will encourage other levelheaded contributors to also finally speak up and help take this forum back. Good job guys!

Later,
