Andy, your lack of anything intelligent to say doesn't make the "bump in the road" position look good. Ad Hominem attacks do not a credible argument make.

I think so. I'm a GI, and I think you are "alien" to the topic of this forum.

Andy Ray,

Let me guess, each of these questions you've been asking lately is going to be a chapter in your book. You're going to print out the threads and after a little editing send them off to your publisher, right? You want us to write your 'book' for you.

a, has admitted to this. Yes on a thread from about one month ago, he stated that he has a degree in science and he believes in ET.

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), July 28, 1999.

Andy Ray has but one MISSION here, that is to disrupt this excellent forum. It is quite obvious that y2k will be coming to the front of the class soon. The Polly/Trolls are in a state of FRENZY attempting to discredit this forum and it's participants from their important goal.

It is quite obvious they have LOST CONTROL and are LOSING the WAR!!

Many Doomers believe:

The power is going to go off

. The phones won't work

That their tinfoil hats serve a purpose That Paul Milne is not mentally ill

The UN has concentration camps set up here in the US

and that blue and white signs on the highway are some sort of government conspiracy designed to take their "preps".

Of course they believe in little green men

Excuse me y2k pro, but I think you are over generalizing here...

Many Doomers believe: [SOME Doomers believe:]

The power is going to go off [Might have sporadic disruptions]

The phones won't work [Might have sporadic disruptions]

That their tinfoil hats serve a purpose [Have a tin roof]

That Paul Milne is not mentally ill [Don't care one way or the other.]

The UN has concentration camps set up here in the US [Possibly, but not confirmed as far as I know.]

and that blue and white signs on the highway are some sort of government conspiracy designed to take their "preps". [The signs have been around for a long time. Ever notice the color of the sign pointing to a rest stop? Uh-oh, blue and white! Or are those white and blue?]

Of course they believe in little green men [considering the vastness of space, and the 'billions and billions' of stars, isn't it a little arrogant to assume that we are the lone living entities in it? As to whether extraterrestrial life can be described as 'little green men,' why not? Would you rather they be described as big purple men?]

The essence of judo ("The Gentle Way") is to push when pulled and pull when pushed. Thus it was said that wrestling with judo' s founder, Jigoro Kano, was like wrestling an empty shirt. Zen is a subsect of Buddhism inspired by Arahant Moggalana while receiving a teaching directly from Lord Buddha.

zoobie,

You are correct, of course. Thank you for the refresher.

Listen, I do not know what's going on, but someone has been immitating me. I'm not even sure what I have posted and what they have! :)

It's a very strange tactic, and I am observing the results in the interests of good science. I am (of course) always flattered by immitation. This appears a rather desperate clutch, however. I suppose if it upset me, I would attempt to do something about it; but I do not know what I could do or say to stop it. I do believe it furthers the distinction between those who choose to debate in a civilised manner and those who do not. Your thoughts on the subject are (as always) appreciated.

Regards,
Andy Ray

Bryce,

This nation no longer has the caliber of people, nor the spiritual maturity of the people that lived through the Great Depression. I invite you to read the headlines or check your local police blotter tomorrow morning and compare that with the news of the '30's.

You are completely ignorant of human history Bryce. You know nothing of what you talk about. The Donner Party wasn't the only instance of murder and cannibalism. Ever read about what happened in Jamestown in the 1600's? Our early history is FILLED with death and suffering. Some Christian pioneers boiled their own wives and children due to starvation after all the leather, bark and wood was eaten around them.

Humankind is a desperate animal. Our written history proves this out time and again.

And today, we are no longer even a shadow of a spiritual society. We are divided, fractured and split along issues of Race, Class, Wealth and Gender. Thank your politicians who used these divisive issues to get into and stay in power. Once those divisions are tested by the fires of trials, I guarantee you they are gonna split so wide, the Grand canyon won't compare.

When hard times come, the absolute WORST in human nature will erupt in this country. I don't give a damn what fantasy you want to pretend that we live in. We are spoiled, fat and lazy and haven't a clue to what it is to go hungry. Our poor and poverty stricken in this nation are KINGS compared with the poor in other nations. Once the groan of suffering turns to anger at our national plight, the blames will be placed on those that pose an obstacle to tyrants seeking power.

And the desire for revenge will be ravenously pursued.

Or are you just oblivious to modern events?

You can dream and believe all day long that we will come together as a nation to work through the problems we will be facing. But if an entire society of DEVOUT pilgrims can turn on one another during Winter Starvation after suffering together 3 stormy months at sea, this spoiled generation will go bezerk when the cable goes out for good.

Or didn't you hear about the rioting at Woodstock '99?

Like Christ said, "Weep not for me but yourselves and children...for if they will do this to me when the tree is green, what will they do to YOU when the tree is barren?"

-- INVAR (gundark@sw.net), July 29, 1999.

Hey Roger! Good points there....but I noticed you didn't mention....horses........oooh! Why would you consider consuming a person's body (especially these days) You have no idea what disease they had previously, or been in contact with recently, and unless you were the one who shot them, what did they die from?. Sounds like a really big risk to me just for a few ribs, etc. Since you are so concerned as to what to do, I suggest stashing away a few extra drop cloths, disposable coveralls, gloves and those masks to cover your nose and mouth. Lots of disinfectant, and means to bury or burn the body. And while your contemplating the lost of your next meal, consider that that person was someone's son/daughter, mother/father, brother/sister, etc. Would you like your family member as guest of honor at someone's table? Ick, what a nasty thought!

-- INVAR (gundark@sw.net), July 29, 1999.

I see your point, Paul. Apparently all those $billions spent in remediation were wasted. Why did anyone bother spending money to fix a problem that can be worked around in, oh, say 72 hours? After all, it "is generally easier to fix any given instance of the bug than other, less well-defined problems."

What morons we must have running the major companies in this country. Why, if I was a major stockholder in one of the Fortune 500 companies, I'd be firing those management bums for wasting money that could have been paid to me as dividends.

BTW, Paul, what exactly was it about this thread that lured you from lurker status back to "posting pollyanna"?

Nobody on the Donner party was murdered. Some folks who died first were eaten by some of the others in the group, some folks refused to eat human meat, and of those refusers, not all of those starved to death, but most did. I can't remember if they were rescued or eventually got out of there, but the ones who did commit cannibalism suffered for it, emotionally and socially. Just like that soccer team in the plane crash in the Andes mountains, I think most folks would have to be in seriously terrible trouble before even considering doing such a thing.

Bryce During the great depression the people were closer to the farm, most everyone had a garden and knew how to grow and preserve food.Physical labor was a way of life.SELF RELIANCE was considered a virtue. The population in most areas was homogeneous. Today we have specialized labor;wherein we(as the total population) are incapable of producing enough food and other critical supplies to survive. The population is diverse and in many cases antagonistic to other races.Government reliance is commonplace self reliance is considered dangerous, particularly if the individual is preparing to save self and family. If the power goes off their will be negative societal repercussions. To deny this fact will be very foolish and dangerous to you and those you love. Looting is now sport in urban areas. Thanks in part to live TV coverage everyone has watched looters steal with impunity(except of course those Korean shopkeepers who saved their inventories by staying up all night with loaded guns). The trigger cause of recent lootings include such grand events as a losing team(or a winning team).Do you honestly think y2k disruptions will trigger nothing?

"Tresspassers will be shot. Survivors wil be shot again"

-- Paul Milne

Exactly, Paul. Bryce, Y2K will be nothing like the depression. A purely economic problem cannot possibly compare to the failure of the entire infrastructure. People will not be ready. They will become desperate. They will come for you, especially if you have supplies or food. If you are not ready to defend yourself, then you really haven't GI at all.

If you aren't prepared to kill, be prepared to die.

Last year after I quit Sydney and my well-paid IT job, I did a PDC course at the Permaculture Research Institute, Tyalgum, NSW, Australia. One day of the two-week live-in course covered "Planning For Disaster". The instructor, who has helped as a volunteer after diasters in several countries listened to my fears about Y2K and told me: it has been documented by U.N. agencies again and again, in places like Somalia. Once society breaks down, all food is gone in three days; in one week the rich own anything and everything of value; and in ten days the cannibalism starts. Don't think it can only happen to people who have skin darker than yours. May the Lord help us all. We won't come through this on our own strength and cleverness alone.

You got it, Paul.

Bryce, this is going to be FAR WORSE than any depression. This is not simply an economic issue, but one which affects the ENTIRE INFRATRUCTURE. When that fails, what do you think is going to happen? How will people react? Are you prepared if they resort to violence? If not, it will cost you your life and that of your family. Are you prepared for that?

If you're not prepared to kill, be prepared to die.

Flint, several comments:

You really should stop beginning your retorts with the not-so-subtle verbiage designed to gently deride your verbal opponent. "I'm not sure what you're saying..." translates to, "You didn't do an adequate job of expressing yourself..." Of course, you then go on for 12 paragraphs, lending some credence to the notion that you knew exactly what I was saying. But, if it makes you feel better about yourself, go ahead.

It is somewhat witless for you to suggest the following: "Remove that sentence, and neither the sense nor the accuracy of his observation is compromised." The obverse of that, obviously, is, "Leave that sentence in, and and neither the sense nor the accuracy of his observation is not compromised." The sentence, Flint, was part and parcel of the post. You can't opt for removal because doing so justifies your remarks or your sentiments.

Further down, you say, "Since I'm sure you're disagreeing by now..." That, of course, was an observation you were not in a position to make. Better had you said, "You may or may not be disagreeing by now..."

I also take exception to you suggesting that I am incapable of weighing evidence, reading posts of varying opinions and shaping my opinions and posts based on the same. I am quite capable of discerning the difference between a reasonable post (regardless of whether the poster is a "doomer" or a "polly") and a puerile rant by some clown with access to a keyboard.

If what you have suggested were the case, I wouldn't be responding to you at all, trying to engage in intelligent discourse. I do, indeed, hold strong opinions, but I am not averse to listening to countervailing arguments.

You have lowered yourself to the level of some posters here. Because you perceive me as a doomer, you are tarring me with the same brush as you do others. That's a narrow-minded, short-sided approach and one that I believed you wouldn't use.

-- Vic (Rdrunner@internetwork.net), July 29, 1999.

No Ray, you won't be discussing the impact of Y2K logically if every optimist left and you just talked to yourself and Outings and a. Your buddies would still be bringing in stuff to 'prove' the government will confiscate your guns, rape your women and spread viruses through jet contrails.

(As nearly as I can figure out the point of the last, somebody thinks this is some sort of 'racially selective' anti breeding virus. Besides being impossible, that is just plain weird.)

Was it you or 'a' who was crossposting stuff from David Icke? Here, let us look at some of Mr. Icke's logic.

Have a free snip: David asked him what was the biggest secret held by British Intelligence. The man replied that it was that the British Royal Family are shape-shifting reptilians!

Here is the url - right off the official David Icke site.

http://www.davidicke.com/icke/articles/desborough.html

Now why should I hang around with people who quote someone who writes books (article is a review of one of Icke's books) about subjects like that? The Queen of England is a shape shifting monster from Mars (read the whole article). That isn't even funny.
