Is government shaking it's finger in your face?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

We've been worrying about the grid, transportation, food chain etc..And while those may be (or may not be)reasons to prepare, I think we may have much more reason to fear our very own federal government...And this should be obvious.. When our president can look us in the eye and lie so convincingly, why wouldn't his minions do the same thing? Practically every day we hear of govt. deception and "spin"..so much so that we have come to expect it... except in one area,Y2k. For some reason we are simply beliveing agency heads and govt. spin doctors. Why??? With so many examples of deception by our present 'leaders'would we be content to turn from this truely big time possibility of vast government breakdown. Is it possible that these agency heads are shaking their fingers in our faces and telling us that the Fed is ok? Do you really have any reason to believe that? Do you have any idea how fast your life will change if welfare checks don't reach certain recepients on time? Or if social security checks can't be delivered?...It won't matter if you have electricity or not if there is civil disorder on a scale we have never seen before! Is your local or state govt.really complaint enough to interact with Fed.computers? To me, this is the real y2k story. Our whole way of life as we know it depends on wheather we can trust our government.. Personally I don't trust them at all and the thought of the huge amount of complexity that is involved ...? It's a scary thought.

I see the government sticking up its middle finger.

Soon the government will clench all five into a fist.

With the way things have been building, I anticipate the first major chemical spill, leak, explosion or other major accident involving loss of life to be blamed by our government on terrorist activity rather than Y2K.

They might have even tried it with Bellingham, but our little neighborhood watch group here picked up on it first.

I would even venture to guess that this forum is now broad enough that we are catching wind of some things and posting it even faster than key cells in Washington can hear about it, brief their stovedpiped chain-of-command, and figure out what to do about it!

Your're right snowleopard. We will see it happen. They've been vaguely setting up the terrorist blame game since I began preparing. I'm not so naive to think we won't see terrorist activity, but I wonder why it has gotten so *much* more attention than Y2K. They seem willing to scare the wool off the sheep with their terrorist theories, while poo-pooing Y2K. It's pretty clear to me.

For the record, I believe that Y2k will bring significant disruptions and that those who are not prepared are in trouble.

But, sometimes not everything that goes wrong is a conspiracy. Soemtimes it just doesn't matter.

If there is a chemical spill, or a release of toxic fumes, or any of the other disasters that can (will?) occur, does it really matter whether it was a Y2k problem or an act of terrorism?

Dead is dead, maimed is maimed. Does it really matter if the National Guard brings in water trucks and herds you to a shelter because the local resevoir has been poisoned by terrorists or because the local water company is mixing untreated sewage into the drinking water as a result of a computer foulup? The result is the same.

Why this need to blame everything on Y2k?

Quite simply we live in a world that has turned dangerous. The signs are there for all to see. Go read Cresson Kearney's to see what's needed to survive......food, water, shelter......the same things that are required to survive an infrastructure breakdown caused by computer problems.......and the same things that will be required to survive the after effects of a biological or chemical attack.

And, frankly, it doesn't matter if the government is shaking it's finger in your nose. How Important Is It? What is important is how you react to it. If you prepare, you've reacted well. If you sit on your butt and do nothing, then you've become a part of the problem.

That should be: Cresson Kearney's Nuclear War Survival Skills

I suppose it DOES matter to *me* de. They've done a wonderful job of setting up preparers as 'fall guys'. I'm not so sure I appreciate my neighbors looking at us in the same light the government has placed us in. Wake up, unless you want YOUR neighbors storming YOUR place looking for the 'terrorists' up the street, who caused the collapse of the banking system, or suspecting YOU of seeking TEOTW with 'desperate' measures of destruction because YOU are on a mission from God. When somebody gets in my face, I fight back!

I offered a thread not long ago, about a seminar being offered, in Las Vegas for law inforcement, military personell and Fed agents. It outlined what to look for in a terrorist. I'll bet a few of their 'descriptions' could be placed in YOUR lap. Attorney Genral Janet Reno offered a quick outline in a magazine interview many months back, which described the profile of individuals who might be considered in need of government intervention. It covered a large portion of the population found in my area of the United States (large contributors to churches, home schooling, ah heck, I'm too mad to think of some of the other CRAP she came up with. My office looks like a tornado hit it, but I have a copy someplace). Senator Bennett also went into great detail about the 'selfufilling prophecies' of those of us preparing and concerned, in one of Milne's rants posted by 'a'. Of course we all know how MISTER PRESIDENT feels about us, "cowering in churches waiting for the world to end....determined to buy desert land and hoard gold, bullets and Skoal in their pickup trucks".

It doesn't matter? You could use a dose of adrenaline friend. WTSHTF.....it'll matter alot. The lynch mobs need to be seeking the self serving politicians, not ME. How about YOU?

GOVERNMENT WILL NOT TAKE THE FALL FOR ***Y2K***.

You can bet they have a PLAN !!

-- Ray (ray@totacc.com), July 28, 1999.

You bet they do Ray! It's called terrorism/cyberterrorism and it's playing right now.

-- Barb (awaltrip@telepath.com), July 28, 1999.

That's right Ray! Let's just hope they don't intend to round up people like US to make an EXAMPLE out of. If anybody thinks it couldn't happen in America, I know several Japanese Americans still living in Wyoming, who's families had been placed there in internment camps during the war. Stripped of EVERYTHING they had worked their whole lives for. Ever visited an Indian reservation? Just TWO examples of big-brained government, serving HUMANITY! THIS IS NOT *JUST* ABOUT THE BREAKDOWN OF A FEW COMPUTER SYSTEMS. Wake up, before you find yourselves sleeping on mats, in tents, surrounded by 10 ft. chain-linked fence! And ya better hope your camp ain't in the middle of Wyoming in January, because some of you fair weather folks would wind up moaning alot through chattering chompers!

Over my dead body they'll pull that kind of stunt again.

Same here friend! There are MANY aspects of "protecting my children", aside from food, water and shelter. MANY.

We're counting on you, Big Star One, to have your eyes open and your ears to the ground!

(hope THAT puckers Billy's pooper. I just love this forum!)

Cousin DE Lewis has the right idea. It matters not whether Y2K or some terrorist act starts the ball, it will be bad. I say this with one caveat: There are "things" out there that the Russians have lost control over that will make Y2K and chemical spills seem frivolous. There will be no protection against them. Hopefully The CIA will be able to intercept a majority of these problems before they become reality. Whether Y2K becomes a 2 or a 10 this will be the time for the fanatics to strike due to our reduced capabilities thanks to the liberals.

-- Neil G.Lewis (pnglewis1@yahoo.com), July 28, 1999.

De and Neil are telling us that we don't need the truth. That we can't handle the truth. That we shouldn't worry our little heads about the causes of events. That we should swallow a lie as an explanation, if the truth is more convenient and less embarassing for the authorities. These two posters threaten us with war and disasters on a global scale, hoping our fear will drown out our rationality and our ability to perceive cause and effect relationships in our environment.

Nice work, guys.
