Why we should prepare

One reason why we should prepare is so that we are not known by the same appellation that the king of England had in the year 1,000...Ethelred the unready!

We should be aware that "unready" didn't mean simply "unprepared". In Olde English, "ready" (or more accurately "rede") meant "wise" or "well-counseled", so to be "unready" (or "redeless") was to be "lacking wisdom".

In other words, to be unready was to be a fool.
