OT - Power Brownouts/parts of SE Texas

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

There was a brownout in parts of SE Texas Friday. Montgomery County, Beaumont, Port Arthur area. Found the piece I heard on the radio interesting...if I got it right. The brownout was due to the amount of power being used there and in the North East. Some power had to be diverted to the NE because of all the hot weather there. I never did understand the grid...now I it' a little clearer. Didn't affect Houtson. The company was Entergy (?)

Brown outs in Illinois as well Fri. due to heat (increased power usage) also, many power surges.

I don't know about the rest of you but I don't think Power brownouts or blackouts are OT.

IMO they are about as ON TOPIC as anything you can imagine.

I can deal with cold alot better than heat and I hope everyone pulls through.
