I GOT MY TILLER (sorry about souting)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I have been looking for a tiller since spring. A friend lent us one and DH tilled me up a garden, but there was no way I could run this monster. The smallest one I saw in town had only the tiller tines, and the salesman told me,"It will drive you into the ground if you can't control it." Thanks for an honest salesman. I ordered this tiller from Damark. 4 tines, about 12.5 in. across with 2 wheels in the back so I can control it. It is light enough that I can pick it up to move it around, don't have to 'walk it' made by RYOBI (DH says it's a good brand) $149.99 I am going to be a tilling fool. Darlene

I'm sure that you made a good purchase for your needs. I tried a lot of brands. 35 y ago I bought my first Troy-Bilt. It still works. I now have three. They do the smaller things. I have a 5 ft wide tiller on my JD for bigger stuff. TB stuff has been very good for me. Don't work for them but do respect them for quality.

DuffyO:

And well you should be. I didn't try to be critical of your purchase. It should work well. I was just reporting my experience with equipment. Man, a lot of this stuff works well, but you put a 5 ft wide tiller behind a fuel-injected JD and you suddenly wonder what you have been breaking your back over for all of these years. But then, I deal with a lot of land.

Best Wishes

Duffy O,

Don't I know about that tilling fool syndrome. First year hubby had tiller, he tilled up more than I could ever plant...lost alot of yard.

Do you have a link, phone number or reference for Damark? Sounds like a very good buy.

Z1X4Y7,

I share your enthusiasm for the Troy-bilt. Our Horse is 14 years old and has only needed yearly maintainance and new tines. I have also heard good reviews for the Craftsman rear tine tiller and would consider purchasing one as a replacement (if ever needed). Much cheaper than TB.

Lilly- no- forget Craftsman tillers- neighbors bought a new one- 8 horse- always broken and a serious bitch to use. Troy-Bilts are worth the money IMO- although I am very mad at them personally as I bought a used one from one of their dealers- it had many problems and the dealer screwed it up beyond hope- neither the Troy-bilt company nor the dealer has come thru with a replacement yet- happened last Fall. However- despite that- I rent troy-bilts and borrow a neighbors- they are the way to go.

On the other hand- tried a neighbors little mini-tiller- can't think of the brand right off hand- pure hell IMO- choked on every rock or weed....

Farmer,

Thanks. Sounds like you have the same kind of luck with tillers that I have with lawn mowers. :-)
