By Michael Redman

The Monroe County Commissioners officially endorsed a Y2K preparedness program at their meeting last Friday. The program is supported by a coalition of over 20 local agencies so far with several others in the process of joining. It calls for distribution of educational material by the agencies and formation of neighborhood and church Y2K preparedness groups.

The program was drawn up by Bloomington resident and environmental consultant Russell Boulding working with the Red Cross and the Monroe County Y2K Action Group.

The plan outlines a proposal for "creating individual and family preparedness for Y2K and natural disasters in the context of neighborhood and faith communities." According to Boulding, the program encourages individual preparation so emergency planning and response can focus on the "truly needy."

Other groups that have endorsed the "Community Y2K And Disaster Preparedness Cooperative Program" are the Chamber of Commerce, Monroe County and Richland-Bean Blossom School Systems, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts, Community Kitchen, Headstart, Council Of Neighborhood Associations, Emergency Management Office, Public Library, Hoosier Hills Food Bank, United Ministries, Community Action Program, Center For Sustainable Living, Bloomington and Perry Township trustees, Community Kitchen, Monroe County Public Library and Stonebelt. Other endorsements are pending.

Thanks, Michael.

You continue to provide me with 'local' ammunition to convince two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law to prepare.

Good info M.

I visit the area occasionally When I have mentioned it to people most don't have alot to say concerning the issue...or non issue to them. I hope this helps. The more we do in Indiana the less likely we will have NG issues.
