Can a region free DVD player play PAL VCDs ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am thinking of getting a region free DVD player (ex. Pioneer DV414). Can it play PAL (from Hong Kong) VCDs without choppng off images ? Do I still need PAL support for my TV ?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

BTW, can you recommend any good and reliable region free DVD players ?

Regards, Paul

Sorry for the confusion. I meant a region free DVD/VCD player.

You will still need Pal support for your tv. IIRC, most Hong Kong vcds are in ntsc format.

What about DVDs from Hong Kong or other regions ? If I play them on my region free DVD player, do I still need dual support on my TV ?

Thanks. Paul

I purchased a DVD player with all region free from Hong Kong almost three years plus I had a Multi System TV. I can play it all types of DVD and VCD with no problem.
