Stereo or mono?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : To Hear Ourselves As Others Hear Us : One Thread

Greetings,

My question regards recording in stereo for taped presentations to others. Will a stereo recording make for a better overall impression, or is it not really worth the extra expenses?

Thank you,

Most listeners aren't very sophisticated about audio. When they hear a mono presentation recorded identically on both channels, they may not consciously realize that it's mono. However, they may unconsciously miss the kind of spaciousness that a stereo recording has. I would record in stereo for presentations to others, *unless* the money for another microphone is a real problem. In that case, I would get one good mike and just split it into two channels.
