snip..... THE REPORT The special Senate panel studying the Y2K problem released a report summarizing what it had found after a year of hearings and analysis. The committee has no data to suggest that the United States will experience nationwide social or economic collapse, the report concluded, but the committee believes that some disruptions will occur, and that in some cases Y2K disruptions may be significant. The international situation may be even more tumultuous. But the committee also cited Internet rumors, the complexity of our wired world and the lack of reliable company Y2K assessments as frustrating aspects to their work. Consequently, the fundamental questions of risk and personal preparedness cannot be answered at this time, the report said. All the Senate inquiries so far, the report added, have not produced convincing evidence that the Y2K problem is well in hand.
