Good Tip for Water Storage Containers

A reminder for any of you foolish enough to do what I have done: When storing gallon water jugs in a closet ("food pantry") with shelves, it would be better to store water on the FLOOR of the pantry. I learned this the hard way by storing water jugs on the top shelf (knowing that water is of utmost importance and after running out of floor room). One of the water jugs sprung a slow leak only discovered after a mildew smell occurred. Luckily I only lost 3 lbs. of flour and a lot of salt stored below the top shelf. Good thing it happened now and not 6 or 8 months from now.

Funny you should mention that. About three days ago I noticed water on my kitchen floor. A gallon jug of water (storebought only a few months ago) had leaked out of a cabinet. It leaked onto boxes of plastic sandwich bags and saran wrap. Yuck. I threw out one roll of saran wrap and am hopng the other stuff will be OK. Lesson learned.

While not directly related, it is wise to check stored preps every month or so anyway, for temp or humidity-related damage and/or risk, rodents, etc.
