Leaving the forum.............

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

On a recent thread I speculated that the troll activity would increase as we move closer to 2000.

I expected a linear increase. But I now know that is not to be. We have been witness to an increasing number of certifiable trolls over the past week. I did not expect this so soon.....but the trend is there.

I dont know what can be done to forestall this troll flood. Maybe you at the headwaters can propose a solution.

Hey Flint, help me out here buddy.Dont bother sending me email, I have well over 1000 to sort thru as it is...

Mike

There has been a number of threads about trolls and pulling the comments. This of course boarders on censorship and is highly offencive for some and a solution for others. It seems to be a 50 - 50 split so Diane is letting it ride and see how the common mood is after a while.

My own opinion, if they want to be stupid thats fine. Sometimes trolls can contribute to the view that society has its head in the sand, some just put their head in farther than others.

It is fustrating that they are fighting "unarmed" and it is often like argueing with a child.

The best idea is just not to feed the trolls.

Mike, They are like flies. Best. Brian, I agree. Can't shoot 'em. Don't feed 'em.

-- Mara Wayne (MaraWayne@aol.com), July 18, 1999.

Mike,

Take heart, the weekend is almost over. We had the same flood of trolls last weekend, too. It's almost a guarantee that things will be back to normal tomorrow.

If this is your final decision, good luck to you and yours and I'll look forward to seeing you on the other side.

Hate to see you leave , Mike . You do good input here.

To everybody: If you can't cope with ignoring and scrolling past the troll posts, how are you ever going to cope with Y2K?

-- sue (deco100@aol.com), July 18, 1999.

Sue , good point

I think this is what you call "denial". If you don't like what you see just don't look at it and then it won't be real anymore. Right? RIGHT??

Nope.

Mike: I left this forum about 4 months ago to get a long needed rest. Prior to that I was on this forum for over a year. Trolls come and go and the forum keeps evolving. The only way to curtail their threads is to simply ignore them. It worked well then and I'm sure it will still work now. Bardou

-- bardou (bardou@baloney.com), July 18, 1999.

Mike,

We should start a pool as to when you'll be back...maybe reincarnated like Deedah...but you'll be back.

Bardou,

Welcome back!

-- flora (***@__._), July 18, 1999.

Flora: Thanks! I really missed you guys. Whatever happened to Uncle Deedah, Sysman, Old Git, Diane Squire, Chuck the Night Driver? Bardou

Damnit Mike.....go watch Braveheart and have a margarita....works for me! Seariously, take a break and make some prep progress. The rest of us will defend the fort until you get back! Please don't sign off for good, I can't stand the thought of loosing your humor, dear Gawd....the humor is getting thin (misty eyed). I've been pretty busy this weekend, but, I have noticed the forum is slow and invaded.

This genital wart calling himself doomers@suck sounds awfully desperate with his old, tired phoo-phoo.

Welcome back, Bardou! Mike, rest, relax, come back when the news can no longer deny & spin -- January? For relief and sanity click on the prep sanctuary :^)

I have been a fairly new visitor to this forum, found you guys in January. Yes, I have seen some ridiculous comments. Commented on a few, left others well enough alone. Mike, not only do these people act like certified idiots on here, they are no different out and about. I am more then appreciative for the serious, educated and informative views of the regulars. Sometimes I do not agree but I keep my comment to myself. I feel those that make immature, unrealistic comments are poorly educated and ignorant. I live around many, socialize with none..I go about with my beliefs as they do-I believe in preparing for any emergency, they laugh and say give me a beer and I will get through it!!( my husband happens to be one of them) I understand your frustration, I have endured that 21 years and counting, so I figured I can laugh off some comments and search for the truth. Just my thoughts... Cassandra B

Bardou, welcome back! :-) Everybody's still around, some on "vacation," but they check in occasionally. Donna Barthuley's been MIA about as long as you were, hope she comes back soon!

-- Gayla (privacy@please.com), July 18, 1999.

Hi Gayla, and Chris is missing too. What happened to her ????

-- Ashton & Leska in Cascadia (allaha@earthlink.net), July 18, 1999.

Hey Mike, it's understandable that you may need a rest. But you don't need to leave! Just show up occasionally and follow the authors of threads rather than the title of threads. You know who is who in this forum, right? You might miss some stuff, but the authors you already know would be the wether bell of the y2k circumstances.

At any rate, we'll miss you guy.

-- George (jvilches@sminter.com.ar), July 18, 1999.

Glad to see so many of you leaving. My inane blather is most effective, is it not? At this rate, I'll send all you doomers back to the bunkers you came from. By the time I'm through, Greenspun can rename this forum Gary North is a Big Fat Idiot. LOL.

-- (doomers@suck.com), July 18, 1999.

Hey that last post from doomer inspired me! I am back in the fight to prep and inform. Every time someone puts down Y2k preppers, I am going to take that as a personal reason to double my efforts to support all of you who are wise enough to wake up and get ready.

-- GF (prep@informed.y2k), July 18, 1999.

Hi,

Thanks to all who requested that I stick around. I don't know what I have yet to contribute. Most everything has been discussed and opinions have been reached. I have not made up my mind as to whether I will continue on this forum.

Well, I'm feelin' kinda goofy. Maybe a nap is in order.

Naps solve most things most of the time. Good idea Mike. I like the siesta culture too. Actually, we do far more if we nap. Did you know that some big corporations will install "nap rooms" for employees that make up for it later? Individual naps now, no hanky panky!

Stick around Mike...

Mike This is what keeps me coming back to the forum. this past week an explosion rocked my world literally! In my community a small gas station that was installing some new gas tanks hit a natural gas line while digging the hole. a massive explosion followed. Seven people were hurt! In a matter of minutes the whole erea was covered with people. Not to help, but to watch the madness. they had announced it on the locale news and the gawkers came from miles around. Traffic was horrendous! I know because I was directing traffic around the scene for seven hours after the blast. Saturday the madness started again looters in brood daylight! They cameone and two at a time. Then as a mob! Because the blast did`nt destroy all of the stores contents. (mostly beer) The police came but couldn`t keep 24 hour security on the scene.(they said) Because there is only four patrolman on third shift in a county of 80,000!! What happens on Jan. 1 2000 If the power does go out? They say possibly three weeks!! I don`t know about the rest of the world(who look at you like you have gone off the deep end when you ask them if they have done anything for Y2K) But my family will be taken care of if ther is a problem. Sorry to the trolls if I sound like a doomer. But this was one eye opening experence even with out the bugs help! Smokey Sorry for the spelling not a Pro!

A couple of us have undertaken the task of moderating the Prep forum. Undertaken is a wholly unintnetional pun of several levels. They would need an exchange of e-'s to explain.

Mike, I hope you stick around. Your handle is one of those that I, and I'm sure many others, immediately click on when it shows up. IMHO, one post of yours--and your supporters above--is worth fifty of this stupid Doomers Suck child and its friends. They're trying to drive away the regulars--and have succeeded in some cases. Don't let them succeed with you too! I really don't have the time to keep posting here but I keep on--I'll be damned if I'm going to let these societal misfits chase me off or scare away a newbie who might need our help and support.

Bardou, thanks for asking. We're all still around, just a bit busier than before. Missed you too!
