Er, how about fire extinguishers. You are going to be using candles? You may want to have a fire extinguisher. And now that the place isn't going to burn down....you only have covered food and water. What about warmth?

In fact, there are several threads archived here that contain lists of what you need to get started. Look them up. Just scroll down past the recent threads and you see a list of topics. You just struck gold.

Just in case your apartment preps aren't enough ------

Have a plan or arrangements as to where you can go if things really get bad, like in a rural area or a home with wood heating capabilities.

Hopefully you have some relative, but even if not, find a place you can go to "just in case".

Not saying you can't make it in an apartment, but there MAY come a time where its just not sufficient.

Handiwipes, can openers, sterno cooker, battery radio, flashlights, battery lamp. Lime for human waste. Garbagebags, paper plates, waterless hand soap. Batteries.

Alco-Brite from Walton - costs 1/3 of Sterno (even after paying the shipping), has 150% the heat energy. Buy at least a case of 24 16oz cans. Get the clip-on stove and it's a cooker, or just burn it for heat. Gives off water vapor, no CO.

Download SoloPlan from Cassandra, do a bugout bag, plan evacuation routes, evaluate in-town risks. Team up with others. Get a scanner.

Go to this thread right on this website, called Y2K for Newcomers. It is at http:greenspun.combboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg. tcl?msg_id=0015dW and you will find many questions answered.

Think in terms of heat, light, food, water, medical, sanitation, and protection. With food, make sure you are buying a balanced diet.

Get vitamins, prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and first aid items you'd normally use. You'll need toilet paper, toothpaste, hygiene items. Get Clorox to purify your drinking water and sanitize your environment. Make sure you have lots of matches, waterproof are best. (Got mine at a camping good store.) Get a sturdy backpack bag and pack essentials in it that you would need if you had to suddenly leave your apartment. (There are lists on the Y2K websites. Have a good flashlight and lots of batteries. A good suggestion I read and a friend is using nicely is to put your bed up on cinder blocks and use the space under it for storage. Have some sort of self defense and make sure you have good locks on doors and windows. May God bless you! Glad you came here for friendly advice...we each learn from one another. Keep your questions coming.

1. If you are REALLY serious- rent a storage area- put all your NORMAL junk in it and use the room in your apartment- under bed, extra closet (linen) china display WHATEVER, for Y2k, if nothing happens, SO WHAT- if something DOES- you REALLY won't need Aunt MAtilda's herloom XMAS ornaments this year. 2. Take a first aid course & CPR-is your tetnus shot up to date? What about DENTAL WORK? If you are in an apartment, that usually means ELEVATORS. Elevators + Elderly= CARDIAC STRESS especially if you add in other factors- heat, cold, HUNGER and the fact that their drugstore is out of their heart meds. IN this scenario, you probably WON"T be successful, but KNOWING how to help also reduces/eliminates SURVIVOR GUILT. Sorry- don't mean to be morbid, but "Only survivors can be optomistic"
