MARP Tournament - New Rule + Another proposed rule

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

The new rule will be applied to future tournaments. Any game that is played in a tournament may not be used for the next four tournaments. In other words, galada fast shoot is used for the 1st tournament. It may not be used(NOR IT'S ORIGINAL) for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th tournaments. It can come back for the 6th tournament. To be more clear - Galaxian, the prequel to Galaga, can be voted into the tournament, as well as GaPlus. Why this many tournaments? Well we have at this time 810 working original games so far. I think a four-skip rule should be adequate - plus we need some variety, no? If you vote a game where it's been already used, if time remains, we'll give you your vote back, and you can try again.(I sound like giving Family Feud's fast money rules... hehehehe) And speaking of voting...

The proposed rule also will be for future tournaments - this applies to the voting rules. As you recall - I asked you to pick five games that you wanted to see in the tournament, with the one you wanted the most worth 2 votes. Obviously, this did not work very well - this formed TREMENDOUS controversy. Instead, we should use what we did for the tiebreaker vote with a slight twist - You pick TWELVE games you want to see in the tournament. Your favorite game gets 15 points. Second gets 12, Third gets 10, Fourth gets 9, all the way to 12th, which gets 1 point. This way, the number of ties will be minimal, and even then, we can have a tie breaker... What do you think about this change?

BTW... have you noticed that we have a three way tie for first in Money Puzzle Exchanger? Who the heck is gonna break this tie?

Catch yall later :)

Two things, gb. One, personally I would like the voting with a scaled down to perhaps ten or so... (Rather than 12ish) Two, I personally seriously disagree with the game can't be in for 4 tourneys... Heck, that means games in the 2000 tourney won't get played again until 2005!!!

Well... seeing that we're putting 12 games into the tournament at one time, I figure we should have everyone pick 12 games.

You mentioned that games played this tournament wouldn't come back by 2005... NOT if we do a tournament every four months - Zwaxy gave that suggestion - I think it's a good idea - we vote for one month, we play for three months, vote for one month, play for three months, etc. There would be three periods each year, which I propose should be called Summer(June - September), Fall(October - January), and Spring(February - May) (we'll skip the winter... too cold to play a tournament anyway... hehehehe :) ) Therefore, games played in this tournament would come back by Winter of 2001, not 2004.

Was counting on two things... One, I don't think there is possibly enough steam yet, and I hope I am right, to support 3 tourneys a year...That's what I was counting for 2005. Also, since it wasn't mentioned before this tourney started, I don't see it beinh fair to impose it on these games. Also, the tourney was originally designed for 10, we let 2 extra in on a technicality... I know this is breaking off to another subject, but as I can only see updates when I am here, my hotmail account is approaching 7 days off- line now, (withdrawals) let me get it out. I want to address cheating in the current tourney... Why must some players, (will not say names right now, they know who they are), cheat one way or another to get a better score... If you can't do it fair, why even compete...

My suggestion to address Chris Parsley's concerns is to make the bar a maximum of 18 months (start to start) or 4 tournaments. For example, Discs Of Tron would become eligible again for a tournament beginning January 2001. Discs of Tron would also become eligible as soon as voting for a fifth tournament after this begins - there's no guarantee all future tournaments will take 3-4 months or even that MARP will only run one at a time.

This way if we hold a lot of tournaments the games won't be repeated often, but if we hold fewer tournaments we won't have to wait till 2005 to play Discs Of Tron again. Bombjack can wait till it's rediscovery by archeologists in early 30,099 for all I care :)
