Information on Cherynobyl virus and its effects

I received this letter Friday, July 9th from the following company, about how the Cherynobyl virus effected their company. There seems to be some sort of "news blackout" on how the Cherynobyl virus is/has effected Asia. I tried doing an internet search last week on Asia and the Cherynobyl virus incident and found nothing, zip, no news. I believe we can surmise from this companies' experience that these are the type of effects they are having there too. It would be intereseting to know how long its taking Asia to find all the problems and how fast they're getting fixed.

Is this an indicator of how companies will be effected by Y2k if they're not remediated?

Dear Valued Customer:

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, the contents of which may help to explain the problems we have recently experienced, which may have effected our service.

On the 26th of April, we were unfortunate enough to have our entire computer system "attacked" by the Chernobly virus. At the time, we did not realize the full extent of the problem and repercussions that would arise due to this virus.

Our entire telphone, fax, order entry processing, production planning and inventory were thrown into total choas and it has taken us until now to fully get a grasp and remedy this situation.

You may have noticed a serious decline in the quality of our customer service, art department response time as well as having been placed on hold through our computerized telephone system for extended periods.

We never realized how deep this problem went and the fact that we were giving fictitious or incorrect shipping information, incorrect projected ship dates and faxes which had been in fact correctly transmitted to us to go into "limbo".

We sincerely regard any inconvenience, which you may have experienced, and as a valued client, we would like to reassure you that these problems have been corrected and safety precaustions have been instituted to prevent their reoccurrence. Should you have been placed in an envious(sic, I believe he meant to state un-envious) situation with any of your clients due to the above, please let us have the details and we will use our best efforts to remedy any specific situation which may still be unresolved.

Please address any faxes or written correspondence to me persnally. I will ensure that they are attended to immediately. I trust that this will not seriously effect our relationship and we look forward to serving you as efficiently as we have in the past.

Yours sincerely,

CUSTOM PLASTIC SPECIALTIES, INC.
