update at my job

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

just sharing...a man started where i work about 2 weeks ago as customer relations. we were talking today about our previous jobs (i've only been there since march). he used to work in marketing for SuperTrak/TrakAuto at a main office of about 150 people. apparently a new company bought them out, sliced the staff down to 25 (run this office like another in N.Y.). he said they have done NOTHING for y2k. his take is that they are planning on gutting the company for the money. when i brought up preps since he knew of a large co. that wouldn't be fixed, he said it was only prudent to prepare / of course, he was. (for the locals that know where i work and would like to verify, call me at work..i'll try to get him to speak to you on the phone. or you 2 in bethesda could just roll up here...but no harassing our salespeople :) )

Thanks. Last fall we were given a multi-page list of things to check for y2k. People were named for the group. We have yet to have our first meeting.

I will bet that if asked, the powers that be would say that we are working on it.

I am still the target of many jokes though a couple of people have begun to prepare. Recently I stopped talking about it altogether for safety reasons.

I hear so much about the major companies that are unable to become compliant that sometimes I forget the millions of smaller ones that are letting it go because of the positive spin of the government and the media.

Of course, you're working on it. You made a list, right? That's "working on it." See how easy that was, now?
