Grindley Email Confirmed to My Satisfaction

Sorry to repost this (and shove something else off the bottom), but these things move so fast that some should be reiterated.

The following very sobering email was posted by Sylvia and attributed to representative Grindley of Georgia. I have received confirmation from Grindley that it was indeed his. All three email texts are included as follows:

The Grindley-to-Sylvia Email:

Dear Sylvia,

As the chairman of the state of Georgias' Y2K taskforce for the State House, I have studied the possibilities and contingincies closely. I have had many conversations with National leaders such as Congressman Steven Horn, Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, to name a few. There are facts that the Government doesn't want you to know. Steve Koskinen, the Nations Y2K czar, has instructed each state to prepare their contingency plans to include 18 cities without power for 3 weeks. The Department of Defense is quite concerned about our power on the grid on that New Years Eve. The chances are good that there will be attempts made by outside sources to shut our grid down. This system was never encrypted, nor designed to keep experts out.

Sylvia, I must say here that God alone knows how bad or uneventful that evening will be, but we must way the risk of preparation with the risk of non preparation.

Please call me if I may be of assistance to you.

Yours in service,

George Grindley State Representative, District 35 Marietta, Georgia

Dear Respresentative Grindley:

You are getting credit for the letter (email) that follows. [I left this off here to avoid repetition.] Since this thing may move across the internet very quickly, could you possibly confirm or deny.

Thank You very much.

Sincerely [my name, "Dave"]

Grindley's Response to Me:

Dear [my name, "Dave"],

Thanks for your note. This was in fact an e-mail I authored some time ago. I was leaning on some statements made to me by the C.I.O. of Georgia. In his capacity, he runs the Ga. Y2K program. After a recent follow-up with him, he stated that it was not actually him on the conference call with Koskinen, but an aid. The remarks that had been attributed to John, were in fact made by one of the other participants on the call. The rest of the e-mail is correct.

Yours in service,

George

Two things that may be helpful:

(1) my real email address to confirm that I'm real: dbc6@cornell.edu (I welcome contact (especially from those in Ithaca), but please no spam. I can get all the KI and rice I need!)

(2) Could somebody provide a link to the previous Grindley post?

Check the original post to see the another correspondence with Rep. Grindley concerning the 3 wk power outage.

Now the question is: is this accurate information? Is it plausible? Certainly, it's plausible-and I'd rather listen to Bob Barr than say, the Clintons, but I wonder...If the 18 largest cities in the country are to be sans electricity for 3 weeks and the DOD is quietly informing everyone on the State/Congressional level that there is a good chance of terrorist action against the power grid (hacking, whatever)then why Georgia for the "controlled leak"? This sounds like dramatic license to me. I'd be more impressed if this were coming from somebody like Ted Kennedy or Charles Schumer-or even the Clintons. That is to say, a source with every reason to be committed to the status quo and one extremely unlikely to want any demoralizing/ embarassing news to get out.

Sometimes that good ol' boy mentality that Georgia politicians are famous for comes in handy. Thanks for confirming Dave.

I distinctly remember discussing Mr. Grindley's comments on nuclear power plants requiring 4 or 6 months to cool down. I can't find it in the archives under utilities, however. Linkmeister...can you help me out here? I remember the poster stating that Mr. Grindley had said this and I responded that this wasn't true and that I didn't expect the poster to take MY word for it, as Rick Cowles had also stated this. The poster responded that folks were allowed to be mistaken on Y2k or Y2k would never be discussed at all, including something about ... and this includes everyone on this forum...including YOU, Anita. I then replied that folks on a forum were NOT expected to be liable for their truths in the same way as our congresscritters. The poster then responded with, "When have our congresscritters EVER told the truth?" Am I the only one who remembers this thread? Does anyone have a clue as to what the topic of the thread was?
