Apocalypse Chow: Good article on food prep.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The Arizona Republic even gives Y2K-specific recipes and good links.

Sally Strackbein, a regular here and at Rick's, is featured in the "make plans for edible insurance" article.

Yes, it was refreshing to see a press article that actually encouraged preparation, rather than mocking it.

Lisa,

I am also in Phoenix and was shocked when I saw Y2K food article at top of front page this morning. However, I was really surprised when I read how informative/helpful it was in common sense thinking about "possibilities" of food related problems. My dog however, who is a chow chow, did not think the title (Apocalypse Chow) was so hot!! It's a keeper for my "manual" files.

Somebody on the "inside" at the Republic???

Lisa, this is a wonderful find. The foods used are mostly the ones Swetie and I eat anyway, except for the dead animal bits. This is a great quote:

"There's no need for a shortage of any kind," said Susie Lyons, instructional specialist in family and consumer sciences at Maricopa County Cooperative Extension. "But if everybody runs out at once, it could create shortages. If you start now, and build it up, it won't happen."

"Do you know the difference between preparing and hoarding?" Niki asked. "Preparing is what people are doing right now, buying extra supplies and things like that. Hoarding is taking things from other people or keeping others from getting them.

"Preparing now prevents hoarding. It's the only responsible thing to do."

Again, good catch, thanks.
