bank holiday scuttlebutt

An extended bank holiday for Dec 31 thru Jan 3 is being discussed seriously here in the states. Sorry, can't divulge the source. Poly's won't believe it anyway. Major national bank, my source is a branch manager. He stated various plans were discussed in a recent meeting concerning y2k. It was his opinion that an extended holiday would be the worst thing they could do for customer confidence, and that if they chose that plan, he would resign. Anybody else hearing the same thing?

It's a law, banks cannot be closed for more than three days.

dozerdoctor,

I haven't heard about anything about that yet. But, there is a risk if banks are open in the U.S. on the morning of December 31st. New Zealand, Australia and Asia will be entering 2000 that morning, and I'd say media coverage will be extensive.

New Years Eve is on a Friday, most banks will have a full day. With the first of the year being on a Saturday the banking industry will no doubt have Monday the 3rd off. This is a norm in the industry. I would know, I have worked in several areas of banking. No surprises here folks!.

One of our banks in Cleveburgh has already advertised they will be open 010100.

I THINK it MIGHT be 5th-3rd but I can't find the eff'n ad anymore!

Interesting topic and comment. With respect to the possibility of a four Banking holiday, I expect it. Maybe it will not be called a Banking Holiday, but the limitation of Banking Services is something I expect. However, it will not be a Holiday for the Banking community. In fact, I expect every Bank Employee will be expected to work both Friday and Monday as the Banks "Check Out The System".
