People do change their minds. I get letters like this every day.

"I just want you to know that I thought y2k was a bunch of bull. Then I saw your site, I have three kids (11,10,and 8) they mean the world to me. I come to your site every day. I made a shopping list and slow but sure I'm doing all that you have said. I got my best friend in on it and we do a lot together."

You will never know how many people you have helped if you just keep on talking. It's weird, but people I don't know listen to me more than people I know. Friends who wouldn't hesitate to follow my advice on a computer related matter think I am a kook on Y2K. Consequently, I keep reaching out to strangers. I hope some stranger reaches out to my friends.

That's exactly right. People you know and have talked to have already made up their minds. It's the people who haven't thought about it yet that can still make some meaningful preparations.

It is wierd, but true. Perhaps most people compartmentalize friends and relatives into certain expected patterns and just can't get what they are saying when the friend or relative has a new idea. On the other hand, with a stranger there is no expectation, so perhaps they will be able to hit on the right area of concern to bring a person to GI.

you know it's like you people are really forcing me to think really really hard about this stuff. like the voices. i used to pretend that i didn't hear them. i'd say, "go way you nasty, nascent specters", and i would fool myself into thinking that they had. is that kind of like what you mean with this y2k stuff?

Glad you've had success convincing people. I haven't.

I find that if the spouse -- usually it's the husband -- has anything to do with computers, either at work or at home, then it's hopeless. He's fixed his own pc at home, & the ones at work were fixed a long time ago. He & his company are compliant. END of discussion! Y2k won't be a problem.... well maybe a few days of minor disruptions, at the very worst.... Keep hard copies of your records ....The only problem will be hysterical idiots taking their money out of the bank, self-fulfilling prophesy, religious nuts, etc. etc. etc.

I've had this discussion so many times, I don't even bother anymore. Que sera sera. Natural selection. God have mercy on us all.
