The Mayor's Office of Operations has stated that work has been completed, and all or part of the necessary testing has been performed, on approximately 69% of the mission-critical and high priority systems of Mayoral agencies. Problems may be identified during the remediation process that could result in delays the City's computer systems may not all be Year 2000 compliant in a timely manner and there could be an adverse impact on mission-critical and high priority systems of Mayoral agencies, if such systems are not Year 2000 compliant by pre-determined dates. The City is in the process of developing contingency plans for all mission-critical and high priority systems of Mayoral agencies, if such systems are not year 2000 compliant by pre-determined dates. The City is also in the process of contacting its significant third party vendors, including State and Federal Governments, regarding the Year 2000 issue and the status of their compliance. Year 2000 compliance by third parties is not within the City's control, and therefore the City cannot assure the timing of such efforts or that there will not be any adverse effects on the City resulting from any failure of these third parties to achieve Year 2000 compliance. . . .

The Mayor needs to declare the 69% to be the mission-mission-critical and high-high-priority systems. Then they can declare 100% readiness. :)

The category "mission-critical" was never used prior to Y2K - it is an artificial category. What about all the other systems? They were installed to increase productivity. If they fail, this alone will cause major problems - the people aren't there anymore to do the work manually.

At the very least we're in for a recession - a depression is more likely.

When Y2K cuts off Manhattan island from the rest of the world how is the New York Stock Exchange going to continue to operate?

What are "mayoral agencies"? Could it later be said that water, sewer or power had their own "agencies" and were not part of the mayoral agencies?

I predict (hey,everybody else is making predictions!) the most often heard statement of the year 2000 will be "We didn't think that was mission-critical".
