Good job Ray!

I can't speak for anyone but myself but these highhanded peckers are pissin' me off! Did you all notice the reference to the "Internet"? Yep, you got it, these fuckers are targeting US! Can anyone spell bourocrat? I sure as hell can't but they are learning to spell our names. Shit I'm pissed now! These parasitic MF's think they're God. And this, on the day marking the most significant event in the history of civilization! I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it feels like I'm screaming in a vacuum. And, as Y2k Pro will probably state, I should be. By the way, those of you who are waiting for me to shut up or chill out, dont hold your collective breath, it aint gonna happen.

Someone has to raise the banner of freedom.

Andy? Help me buddy, what do you do when the vein in your temple starts throbbing?

The vile declaration is below. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"The public has voiced its concern to the Committee regarding the role that the federal government will play in responding to Y2K- related emergencies. Numerous misguided rumors and outright falsehoods are being circulated in some quarters on the Internet about the possibility that "martial law" will somehow be declared by the federal government in response to Y2K emergencies. These rumors and falsehoods will serve only to incite unwarranted public panic and to needlessly heighten public fear and misunderstanding about the Y2K problem. Such irresponsible and reckless speculation has no basis in fact, and it disregards the long history of our nations commitment to democracy and our own constitutional system of government, which is grounded in the rule of law."

Mike - I have been known to down a few pints! Works for me.

Going on vacation in the AM to London, back on the 22nd - no y2k for 16 days! Yes!

As a parting shot, this was on the Contrarian newsletter, read the thread just started by Seraphima -

Martial Law - it's gonna happen... Bankk runs - yup - but they'll declare a bank holiday pretty damn quick... don't think it will do any good though... check this out...

"I was in looking at assault rifles today at one of my local gun stores.... I got to talking to the owner, and Y2K came up.... He told me that "more than one" of his best long-term customers, with affiliations to.... [CIA/DOD] groups, have told him of a plan for a "quick response" imposition of martial law. "72 hours." The date he heard from some of them was December 1st. To disburse the troops and have martial law in place in 72 hours. By December 4th, in other words. The idea for the timing, presumably, being that it will be clear by then just how many nations, companies, and agencies are not going to be ready. And enough time for the soldiers to integrate with the rail and utility distributions, perhaps for ration coupon books to be printed and available by January 1st, etc.... He didn't say his sources KNEW that martial law was going to be implemented, but that the sources had seen plans for possible implementation.... Take it as you will. - Tim May"

Martial law IS a very real concern for Y2K I live on the gulf coast and martial law is implemented ocasionally in hurricane situations to prevent people from putting themselves in dangerous situations or to prevent looting. In the case of Y2K we can expect martial law if the utilities do go out. Unfortunatly, I have heard from friends in the sherriffs office that in the event of martial law there is also potental for beaurocrats trying harder and with support of the "martial police" to try to disarm the civilian sector. From my understanding this is not the local opinion of what is right, most officers I have talked with support an armed populus but I have heard "rumors" that a disarmament may also but attempted if martial law does go into effect for Y2K.

A friend of mine is former spec forces. He says his friends still in service clued him in that they've been doing roadblock drills on a regular basis.

I think that there will definitely be an attempt to confiscate guns during the early phase of martial law. Remember, the marching orders will be coming from FEMA or another federal agency. Whether or not this succeeds will be a matter of which local *police* are tasked with this order, if they "look the other way" regarding some citizens, and the overall resistance by the general population to being disarmed. There are sure to be some violent confrontations if disarming is attempted, perhaps even a guerrilla war reaction, and we will see from that point on if the police really want to pursue it.

Confiscation of guns? I very mich doubt it. Do you think the National Guard is going door to door to take your rifles when they need to be on the street doing crowd control or whatever? I don't think so! If you look at the NAtional Guard statement from the DoD, it is not threatening. If you look at the help the National Guard gave to people post-Hurricane Andrew, it was a good thing.

Mara,

You are missing an important point here. The National Guard will only be a small part of martial law. Once enacted, it will take over and direct every police department from the State Police, Sheriff's Depts, City Police, Local Police, Fire Departments, Game Warden's, etc, etc. In short, anyone who had a badge before will now become an arm of the martial law enforcement. Do you see now why there will be enough police to start this search? AND if the ORDERS are to seek out and confiscate weapons, then that is what they will attempt to do, at least initially. Based on the current attitude of the anti-gun crowd in the administration, I think you should plan on at least an abortive (and confrontational) attempt to disarm the public. Also, we have never experienced true national martial law. The National Guard involvement in the past has always been under the existing civil laws and rules, never under complete dictatorial martial law.

Gordon,

They may TRY it, but they won't get very far. The groups you list (firemen, etc) often are faced with danger, but they are NOT used to walking head first into bullets. I bet most of them (along with most local police) will bail the first time someone 'comes out shooting'.

This isn't a SWAT thing where they're trying to get some bankrobber, this will be trying to take out their NEIGHBOR who refuses to give up his guns. I doubt very many will try in the first place.

Tech 32,

I pray that you are right. And that quite a few of the "police" will see the wisdom of having armed neighbor citizens. In the days of the old west, the marshal or sheriff often depended on the well armed ranchers to assist him in times of trouble with the "outlaws." That could well happen again, human nature hasn't changed all that much.

I think that they will try martial law in certain areas, ones around major cities. They'd have to, to keep the rif-raf down, once the neccessities of life start to fail. They lack the strength to lock down the whole country.

Now if the gov.orgs can take control of the necessities of life and keep them running, sort of, they can induce alot more of the people to do as they are told.

Disarming the whole country will take too much time, and will result in too many casualties. I suspect that it'll be a spotty thing, with some areas better swept than others. I also suspect that 90+% of cops will initially cooperate with gun sweeps. They are too afraid to lose their cushy jobs and pensions.

However, once they start to take significant casualties, I bet that quite a few decide it's time to go AWOL. Nothing like being shot at and seeing buddies killed to make one rethink their desire to obey an unconstitutional order... :)

Comeing from a small town on the south Oregon coast, and knowing the local yocals, the county mounties, the State fuzz, the Fed. law enforcement, the county DA., and the county judge, I can state, there is no plan to take law abideing citz. guns. They are all pro gun, and if your record is clean, they support your rights to keep and bear arms.

With the newest, and highest security prision in California ( Pelican Bay, charlie manson lives here ) we have more law enforcemant than the average area. We have had 3 or 4 escapes, and ALL have been taken down by locall people, with the thanks of the correctional personal. We average 4 to 5 guns per person here. There will be no gun round up in this part of the Union.
