My brother and i are racking our brains to fnid a way to put our short filmsn the net without going through ifilm or any screening process, Looking for a really good compression, so our shorts can be dowloaded in a timely fashion any ideas. Realplayer far too expensive.

Quicktime is the way to go....Sorenson compression is probably the best (it's processor intensive temporal and spatial compression. It uses a scalable method similar to MPEG-2...but more processor intensive)

Media Cleaner Pro has a bunch of presets that are "standard" for different sizes for the web...but streaming movies generally suck without high bandwith.

On the other hand, you can get some decent results for stuff that is set to be downloaded in whole...again with sorenson.

I'd be able to give you some better ideas of end results if you gave me some ideas how "short" your films were.

Try http://realnetworks.com/products/producer . It's Real player's AVI compression thingamydigit. Haven't seen it myself but it sounds like a good idea.
