I went to the bank today and after doing business, I asked the loan officer how the bank was coming along as far as being complaiant. He said he was told the bank would be ok. I asked if he meant they were compliant and he said yes. I asked if he would put it into writng, the answer was "no" but he was sure they were just as compliant as any bank.

I then asked if he was personally preparing. He looked kind of confused and then asked me "what for?". It sent chills up my spine. He really did not know. We live in a rural community with 1 weekly paper which has not had any Y2k articles or information other then "the banks are ready" ads.

I started to leave, had stood up and he motioned me to sit back down. He asked me what I thought. I gave him my opinion but told him the best thing would be for him to do his own reseach and come to his own conclusions. I said I would email him some information.

I will be sending him the Red Cross site along with FEMA and the National Guard. Now for my question, what are the very best articles that I could include? Keep in mind, they must be easily linked with no downloads. Nothing complex.

I know that this question has been asked before, but our information changes daily. Some information becomes obsolete while others are more important. I appreciate the help.

Hi Linda-

I'm glad you posted this. It reminded me of a great site that I had forgotten to talk about.

Consumer Reports did a good piece on Y2K preparation in their April 1999 issue, and it is now available online. It basically follows the Red Cross guidelines, but it adds lots of other useful ideas. Consumer Reports is such a low-hype organization, and it could have alot of credibility with folks who wonder about Y2K.

You may want to give him this link at the GSA's community Y2K site. may as well get some .gov oomph behind it. The page has "a few good links", Consumer Reports among them.
