Storing gas: metal or plastic?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

What is the best container to store gasoline in? Metal or plastic? If I store it in a detached garage (cold in the winter) how long will it keep? I'm in the dark on this and would appreciate any suggestions.

Short and simple;

A sealed metal drum is the only way for long-term storage.

Add a storage stabilizer like Sta-Bil and six months to one year is not out of the question.

The detached garage is an excellent plan.

Include a ground wire or strap from the drum to a metal water pipe or suitable ground rod.

Good luck!

Shannon; PLEASE ALLOW FOR EXPANSION OF GASOLINE !!! Sorry, Gas expands quite fast,but during the cold weather gas will compress (sorta). Just don't fill the barrels totally full. remember your a teacher of three.... Furie...
