Hi everyone

A few months ago I had good advice from this site that I should buy a "snazzie", unfortunately I have had a long layoff from this stuff and to get the learning curve goin again I made my first video cd only lastnight- finally figured out and used the adaptec program to burn a CD initially CD-RW at this point.

I do not have a player only my PC at this time and I had some trouble getting the dat files to play. I have the latest version of Windows Media player and found that did not list dat's so I could not make it play by importing the file.

I then used explorer, double clicked the file on the CD and the system asked what do you want to play this with? I answered Mplayer2 and up came the vision in Windows Media Player and it played beautifully.

At work this morning I have not been able to actually play the vision in windows media player other than with horizontal streaks/bars where the vision should be. This set is a 330 pentium 2 and also does not indicate dats in the usable formats for the player.

OK - What do I need to do to be able to play video cd files on the PC, maybe someone can direct me to a better player?

More surfing of this site and catching up, just downloaded PowerDVD to see what happens!

Still like to be guided on windows media player though!

You will have to purchase PowerDVD to get the full effect. It is an excellent player and very much worth the $45.00 to get it. I own a copy of it along with a Sis6326 Video Card, the playback is excellent.

In relation to video cd I will never understand why video CD is not in the 4:3 format, if ya go full screen it stretches the image sideways to make up the difference, never seen this stuff on TV yet but what does it do to the image on a 4:3 tele?

The PAL size is quarter frame 252 x 288 and that 16 pixels off each side of the true size.

Many Video CDs from Malaysia and Singapore about 99% are in the 4:3/1.33:1 aspect ratio. In Hong Kong 90% are 1.33:1 ratio, 5% are anamorphic 2.35:1 Widescreen, the last 5% are regular 2.35:1 Widescreen. Anamorphic simply means the film was enhanced to fit the square television better than regular Widescreen. What you might want to do is check the settings for your PowerDVD. Click on the Config Button(it looks like a hammer and nail). Then click PowerDVD Setting... for a dialog box. Finally click on Advanced to find the advanced settings such as opening the film in 4:3 Full Frame ratio. My copy does not do it since I own the Sis6326 card but it does do it automatically thanks to the support of the card.

You can downloade a video CD Player or a DVD Player. Or in other hand you can instull those Players by buying the discs requirment.
