Reminder: Frontline (PBS) has "CRASH" on tonight - synopsis

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Threads related to this posted yesterday, this is a reminder to those who may have missed it.

Synopsis in St. Paul Pioneer Press says:

"If you don't start hoarding your quarters and dimes after watching this, maybe you're ready to be an international banker." (Refering to discussion in show of how international financiers are now taking extaordinary risks - thinking the IMF will bail them out if anything goes wrong --like they did to Mexico, Russia).

The show clearly demonstrates that the financil system is now a worldwide "house of cards", and despite the fact that people think a "new economy", where all the old laws of finance and money don't apply, will endure forever ---- the "Crash" is not only possible, maybe overdue (people on this forum would say "probable and long overdue").

Hey Jon what time is that EST?

I think not all PBS stations operate on the same schedule, but the usual time for me is 9:00 pm Central, 10:00 Eastern. Maybe someone on the East Coast knows for sure.

First, thanks for the heads up on this Jon. PBS has extensive followup at:

http://www .pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/crash/

A very sobering and chilling presentation. A small, statistically insignificant set of people who understand the potential for real harm. Enough evidence to fill a warehouse. An administration that will neither lead nor even listen. Spin that won't quit. The official line: Everything's OK. People living with the delusion that someone will always be there to bail them out. A rush to prevent panic. Consequences that reach much further than the players in the game. Illusion and perception more important than realities.

Sound familiar?

Sometimes I wish I could go back to sleep. Life was much simpler then. Tick tock.

Remember that expression, "kill all the lawyers"? I think I want to change that to bankers. But seriously, This WAS a sobering report, especially when you see that the IMF is calling the shots and doing the bailing out. The report said that the IMF was pretty much an American institution(the biggest contributer). My thought is, what happens when the IMF's biggest funder goes belly up?????
