1876 railroad from N. Carolina to New Mexico

In 1876 a railroad made it's first rip from N. Carolina to New Mexico. What was the railroad line, where did it start and end, and if possible who were the passengers? I know I'm asking for a lot, but I hope some one can help me. Thanks E.

I'm not aware of any single railroad company that served both North Carolina and New Mexico, either now or in 1876. I'm reasonably certain that there was no regularly scheduled through service (service with out change of cars). To the best of my knowledge, through passenger service without change of cars between these points was not available until the 1950's or so.

If you can provide any additional details, I may be able to come up with something, but right now, I'd have to say that something doesn't "add". Either the end points are not correct, it wasn't one company, the date wasn't 1876, or something.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.
