MARP Tournament - Game Selection Tie Breaker Vote

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

OK... since there's so many games with 2 votes, and keeping an even number of games, let alone keeping a decent number of games to play is difficult, I'm taking one of Chris Parsley's ideas and calling a tie-breaker vote. Prioritize your games from 5 to 1, most liked gets 5 points, least liked, but still liked, gets 1 point. A number of games with the most votes will get MARP Tourney stardom. I really didn't want to take this step, but it's either that, play a bunch of games, or take an uneven number of games... I'll show you an example later.

Oh yeah... you're prioritizing the games with 2 votes, if a game comes into 3 votes, then it's out of the tie-breaker, if a game comes into 2 votes, then it becomes part of the tie-breaker.

OK, here's my priority list:

Tempest - 5 pts. River Patrol - 4 pts. PacMan - fast - 3 pts. Eyes - 2 pts. Cheyenne - 1 pt.

Well, I didn't vote for any games in the first round, is it too late? I thought we had until the 30th to decide? I expect I'm being really annoying by voting so late, but shouldn't the tie break happen after the close of voting?

If the voting is still open, my votes would be:

pang3 - panic mode ** double votes game bubble bobble bombjack qbert qubes klax

Based on the current tied games, my tie-breaker votes would be:

5. Money Puzzle Exchanger 4. Klax (it's tied if you count my votes above) 3. PacMan (speedup cheat) 2. Millipede 1. WonderBoy

Um... awaiting your flood of complaints...

Chris.

Good gosh, Chris. It's about time you showed up and played with the others. I was beginning to think that you weren't going to participate in the tourney. Hmmm...I see you've picked games that I can't beat you on. :p

No complaints... you're vote is as good as everyone elses here :)

As I've said in JoustGod's thing, I will update the webpage after class in a few hours... ugh... :(

I know I was putting it off until the last minute, but that was because I can't decide what games to vote on... way too many!! I also wanted to be "fair" and pick games that I think would make for good competition, yet ones I'm also ok at playing. ;) But I think I've finally narrowed it down to:

Satan's Hollow [2-point vote] Berezerk (regular romset) Robotron 2084 (TG Tournament settings) Alien Syndrome Xybots

As for the tiebreakers, I'm not sure which games are tied... but Mr. Do! Run Run gets my 5-point vote, and Money Puzzle Exchanger solo play gets my 4-point. I'll post my other picks before I go to bed.

Okay, since it doesn't look good for Wonderboy making it into the final list, I may as well help my cause by adjusting my 2 point vote from Wonderboy to Bomb Jack to make it count for more.

Since Wonderboy won't be in the tie-list anymore, (and Bomb Jack is now a 3 pointer and above the tie voting) please adjust my tie break vote as follows:

5 = River Patrol 4 = Puzzle De Pon 3 = Pacman Fast 2 = Tempest 1 = Do Run Run

Ok, here's my list of games prioritized best to least.

Regards, Steve Krogman

1) Galaga (turbo-fire) TG "tournement setting" which is all the same settings (3 men to start, 1st free man at 30K, 70k, and every 70k thereafter, and a difficulty setting of "D" to allow the game to continue after stage 256) but difficulty set to "C" instead of "D" to ALLOW an ending by a kill-screen.

2) Tetris

3) Ms Pacman (turbo)

4) Pang 3 (panic mode)

5) Donkey Kong

-- stephen krogman (skrogman@concentric.net), June 29, 1999.

Steve,

I think you've missed the point here.

Galaga (turbo-fire) is already above the tie break level as is PANG 3 Panic Mode. All your others are not currently in the tied list.

ie: We're supposed to be voting 5-1 on the following tied games - although my latest vote change has removed Wonderboy from 2 point tied contention. Thy will totally lose their formatting, but refer to MARP Tournament for a nicely formatted version. (I can't be stuffed trying to format the HTML code for it to look good on this message board.)

Or better still, try this link directly to the Voting Status page.

Of course this will turn out crap in the mail message since they send plain text emails but hey, who cares. ;-)
