OT but pertinent " Truth is a pathless land" J. Krishnamurti

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

"I maintain that Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. That is my point of view, and I adhere to that absolutely and unconditionally. Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path. If you first understand that, then you will see how impossible it is to organize a belief. A belief is purely an individual matter, and you cannot and must not organize it. If you do, it becomes dead, crystallized; it becomes a creed, a sect, a religion, to be imposed on others. This is what everyone throughout the world is attempting to do. Truth is narrowed down and made a plaything for those who are weak, for those who are only momentarily discontented. Truth cannot be brought down, rather the individual must make the effort to ascend to it. You cannot bring the mountain-top to the valley. If you would attain to the mountain-top you must pass through the valley, climb the steeps, unafraid of the dangerous precipices. You must climb towards the Truth, it cannot be "stepped down" or organized for you. Interest in ideas is mainly sustained by organizations, but organizations only awaken interest from without. Interest, which is not born out of love of Truth for its own sake, but aroused by an organization, is of no value. The organization becomes a framework into which its members can conveniently fit. They no longer strive after Truth or the mountain-top, but rather carve for themselves a convenient niche in which they put themselves, or let the organization place them, and consider that the organization will thereby lead them to Truth. Still OT.. but I am currently reading a couple of books about Vince Foster's death, and the above post rings a bell.

"Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever,.."

And it seems that if you have something that is "not truth" at the core, there is no story you can wrap it in which will give it that "ring of truth".

NERC "testing" comes to mind also... as a more on topic example. -g-

hm, hm, hm. Why stop there, Linda? "We hold these truths to be self evident" Thank God some where willing to gather together in a group, in search of the truth. Took effort, perseverance, sacrafices and the determination to keep it. Still does.

God and the devil were walking along together one day, when God saw something shimmering and beautiful on the ground. He scooped it up, and it lay shimmering there in God's hand. The devil looked over God's shoulder asking "What is it?" God said, "This is truth." Upon hearing that, the devil snatched it out of God's hand saying "Gimmie that! I'll organize it for ya."........Tim PS I heard this story on TV.

That's pretty funny. What is the sound of one hand clapping? Wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off. Do Tibetan monks need food? If we knew the truth, grasshoppa....why would we be here? Lock and load...the truth as I see it. If humans were actually enlightened, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in. If anyone were truely enlightened, they wouldn't be using the Internet. I'm sure all supreme being, spiritual entities, which know no physical boundries are placing bets and getting a real kick out of the pickle we plain old humans are in! I shall now levitate to the barn, mere mortal.

Another fine example of the mindset of the 60's and 70's. Let us seek the REAL truth, as Timothy O'Leary knew it to be....yo bud, quit hot- boxin' that doob maaaaaannnn. Truth, no matter where one seeks it from, is forced to exist in the realistic and physical world from which it is sought. Unless you're on a different 'plane'. But, what IS reality........????

In the 1930's people worshipped Krishnamurti as if he was the Christ. He finally grew old and died in Santa Barbara, Calif. like every one else.
