Vehicle registration renewals in Honolulu

The problem still isn't fixed yet?

There are no delays -- in fact, one-day processing is standard -- for mailed vehicle registration renewals, but that is an area where the Y2K bug raised its ugly head. Manual processing has been under way since Jan. 1 because "the system has been rendered unreliable by the Y2K problem."

The staff is working after hours to achieve the one-day processing goal, resulting in unbudgeted overtime costs, the auditor found.

Good catch, Linkmeister! They dared to say the unmentionable untouchable dirty little secret. Wonder if somebody will force a retraction or "correction."

Yes, good one.

"There is a 2-year backlog in entering drivers license information into the computer database. Management estimates it takes the staff 15 minutes longer per transaction to retrieve data manually from a card file than from the automated system."

Wonder how many "backlogs" are being created this Y2K and what an enforced manual slowdown might do... next year?

Manual since January. They've been able to hide this for 7 months. How many others are suddenly loosing their grip on the Tiger's tail? Mississippi was forced to 'let go' this month with a 900 Million dollar lawsuit which allowed Kansas to jump on the band-wagon in announcing their State taxation systems are also pucked up. Denver and New Jersey had their little welfare problems, the automatic withdrawl of taxes from bank accounts up in Canada. I know I've missed others. This is just the beginning.

justme: go into the archives at the bottom of the threads, choose Government and find "Mississippi files 900 Million dollar lawsuit".

Listen....I had one heck of a time getting a person who knew what they were doing, to 'verify'. THAT SAME MORNING. They must hire former employees from Pizza Hut! Naturally, this is a common problem World-wide.....trust the 'experts' they know what they are doing.

Gee...the problem happened on January 1, 7 months ago. Yet they have a two year back log...gee...what makes me think it is not related?
