I work for a medium size I.C. manufacturer. On Sunday we will be using a new database server for all of our inhouse tracking, It's supposedly y2k compliant, which I do believe. My question, and curiosity is, how well will it work. I've heard stories about data compatability(putting so called non y2k data in a y2k ready system, etc.). I will keep an eye out at work for any problems that might pop up/or not.

I am a former lurker(4 Mo's), but I will probably be posting now sometimes, so don't flame me too hard right off the bat. I would also consider myself a GI(not that I like labels).

we probably buy ics from you guy! some advice cygnus, keep a positive attitude, it'll be painful and frustrating but don't loose you sense of humor and it you don't have one get one, it'll help.

i work for a major avionics manufacturer and we just implemented a new interprise resource planning system for the whole factory, hr, accting, manuf, materials, the works in may. i was on the implementation & support team and still am......2 months and we're still working the bugs out. what is scarey to me is how much time we spent preparing, 2 years and about 300 people full time, and how much of the process didn't get defined....lots of little things that were pushed to the side and are now biting us in the butt. we'll be ok eventually but i guess my point is if we spent 2 years preparing for this and still haven't gotten it right, what about the folks who are going to "fix on failure"? rots a ruck

Hummm... wouldn't be SAP/3 would it? Replacing the app is a piece of cake, remediating the data is the mother... maybe start from implementation, add the old records as needed? Goog hackers are hard to come by, keyboard jockeys are relatively cheap...
