the media /president inactivity is really making me paranoid

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

o.k.,I can understand the attitudes of subjectivists like Deano, who assert that banks are not at risk from y2k,but rather bank runs caused by people who are afraid of y2k bank crashes due to the insolvent nature of banking. But the media's dumming-down of the issues have started making me more paranoid. If the government knows that there are going to be serious disruptions, and they know that they'll probably need to feed the people anyway, why give the bad people advanced notice to buy guns and to prepair for choas. There must be quite a few people in the inner city who could own guns(whether legal,or mac-10's and uzi's out of the back of a truck)that choose not to for whatever reason.I'm not saying I agree with this and don't flame me for being paranoid as I'm presenting this as paranoia.I know I'm not the only one who enjoy reading paranoid nutbag rants, right,Andy(wink, wink)

Add to this the fact that these same self righteous holier-than-thou earth muffins we commonly call Americans have elected a known draft dodger who has affairs with less than attractive women and worse than this he is affiliated with the Democratic party. These miscreants are so clueless they probably wouldn't even notice if the power were to be out for five or more years. I don't mean to add to the paranoia, for goodness sakes we know that there is more than enough of that to go around, (right Andy - wink, wink, hug, hug, wink, wink) but we need to come to grips with what is really happening. It is late June 1999 and we are very far into the game now. The time for preparing is almost over, and your neighbors won't prepare, but they will remember that you are preparing, so we need to move where we will have no neighbors. It might not be neighborly of us to do this, but this is Y2K FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. We have never faced anything of this magnitude in thousands of years of human history, yet we have pollyannas acting like it is no big deal. We need to get slingshots and pea shooters into the hands of the common folk so the Y2K power-elite will not be able to maintain a cultural superiority over the rest of us. Well this is all the paranoia I care to diseminate at this time. Please don't flame me, as I am admitting is a lot to chew on at one time.

Perhaps those that are paranoid are those who simply have creative imaginations - who are able to imagine various (fightning scenarios).

For example, conventional wisdom says to purchase a shotgun to protect one's family in the event of looting. What use would a shotgun be against roving *gangbangers* armed with AR-16's? Control of the State or Nation could very easily pass from government to drug- crazed teenage kids!

Anyone who lived in the Los Angeles region during the riots following the Rodney Allen King trial could see that the scenario above is a distinct possibility. And I see or hear little from State or Federal authorities that they are in any way preprared.

God help us!

The funny thing is, Greg, is that our nation is being passed over to drug crazed teens anyway. Only they too wear suits and ties and drive BMW's. Eventually the older generation will have to relinquish control of this country over to the very same Gen X'ers that they condemn so much. Is that what they meant by reaping what you sow?

Sorry greg...but the truth as I see it is, anybody who would live in Los Angeles through Y2K....is gonna get just what they are afraid of anyway! "Change the channel, I hate news programs. What's for dinner honey? Has anyone picked up the dry-cleaning yet? I think we're out of dog food." Heck, most people are by far better off being clueless. Lock and load....this could really be something to remember!

Gosh greg, did someone come out with a new rifle while I wasn't looking? An AR-16? No such thing exists. I assume you meant an M-16. By the way, when was the last time you heard of a gangbanger using any kind of an automatic weapon? My guess is you watch too many movies. Hnadguns are the weapon of choice for your average gang member, and yes, a shotgun would be as good of a choice at relatively close range as anything. At longer range, a decent deer rifle would be better then 95% of the guns that gangs use. A tec-9 may look deadly, but accuracy is another matter. It still only shoots one bullet for every pull of the trigger, just like the average shotgun or hunting rifle.

I've heard AR-16's are a "more readily automatic weapon" than M-16's See below

Mestic Munitions AR-16 Automatic Rifle

The AR-16 design immediately succeeded the AR-15 and is basically a slightly refined AR-15. In appearance, there is not a single difference between a stock AR-15 and a stock AR-16. The only difference is a greatly increased range which makes the weapon a nice rival to a standard blaster rifle.

Model: Mestic Munitions AR- 16
Type: .56 caliber heavy assault weapon
Scale: Character
Skill: Firearms: auto-rifle
Ammo: 55
Cost: 1,420 credits (clips: 30)
Availability: 3, R or X
Range: 3-20/50/200
Damage: 5D, 6D (4 round burst)
Game Notes: On constant-fire mode the AR-16 fires a burst of 7 rounds per shot. Once a hit is established, all following shots against nearby (1 meter) targets are one difficulty lower.

Well I guess we know what greg will be packin' if he stays in LA! Beware homies!

Good luck greg, but don't worry....if you die, just put another quarter in.....

ha ha ha!

I just had to see where that paragon of gun knowledge greg got that ar-16 info. A quick altavista search turned it up, at
http://www.more-on .com/dlos/palvar/ar-16.htm
backing up one level on the URL takes you to
http://www.more-on.com/dlos /palvar/ , the Pavlar Sector Sourcebook, an RPG online supplement. Golly greg, I sure hope you researched y2k better then you did this.

Sigh, this forum is going downhill faster and faster......
