greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Hey marpers, 5 minutes after I walked into work last night my boss said, "here, this was sent to us today and after reading it, we made a copy to give to you". Man! this really made my night! Thanks to Twin Galaxies! I wanted to share this with all of you because ANYONE can have the opportunity to be in the same lime-lite that I was in when I achieved 3 world record scores from my home town. Twin Galaxies goes out of their way to recognize a "Star" player for accomplishing a world record on a certain game. Next year in New Hampshire, will be the "Hub" for getting "Recognized" as a world record holder on any of the 140 classic games they plan on having on their floor by next year. Hope to see as many marpers as possible at the next event! As for the News Release I recieved last night, I wanted to share it with all of my marp buddies, so let me know what you think. Remember, ANYONE can get the same recognition I did when I achieved a new world record. If you would like to comment on this, or want to plan on breaking a new world record, leave your comments on the Twin Galaxies message board here www.twingalaxies.com

Video game world record set at Boomers in Boca Raton, Florida. Score slated for Video Game and Pinball Book of Records

BOCA RATON, FL -- On Wednesday, June 23, a Boca Raton man achieved a video game high score that is gaining official recognition from the Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records.

Stephen Krogman, a regular customer at Boomers in Boca Raton, Florida eclipsed his own 13-year-old high score on the popular Arkanoid video game only to learn that it will be listed as the new world record in the next edition of Twin Galaxies Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records -- which is the official record book for the world of video game and pinball playing.

Stephen Krogmans 1,466,460 point score beats the current listing in the record book, says Walter Day, chief scorekeeper at the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard, an organization in Fairfield, Iowa that tracks video game and pinball scores for the worldwide coin-operated amusement industry. The old record was 1,366,640 points scored by Mike Chase on September 23, 1987 in Houston, Texas.

Krogman, 30, who works as a game technician at the famous Grand Prix Race-O-Rama in Dania, says he had beaten Chases score over 13 years ago with a 1,450,230 point tally, but he had no witnesses or photographs to support his claim. It was very frustrating, says Krogman, because it took 13 more years to have another miraculous game like this.

The management of Boomers is marveling at Krogmans feat, too. Krogmans record may never be beaten, says Robert Araiza, Regional Director for Palace Entertainment, the parent company that owns both Boomers and Grand Prix Race-O-Rama. The staff of Boomers and Grand Prix are in awe of Krogmans abilities, because he already holds the world records on Galaga and Tetris -- making him a sort of Triple Crown winner.

Twin Galaxies believes Krogmans score may last quite a while. Krogmans score may be unbeatable -- even by himself, says Rachael Wendell, Twin Galaxies spokesperson. The best players have all tried to dominate Arkanoid, but only Krogman has successfully reached this level of performance. Im sure his score will withstand the test of time.

Twin Galaxies will be issuing two Certificates of Honor to commemorate the accomplishment. One will go to Krogman and the other to Boomers, who plans to frame the certificate and hang it above the game. Boomers is located at 3100 Airport Rd. in Boca Raton.

The Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard has been keeping score for the world of video game and pinball playing since 1982 and has enjoyed media appearances in LIFE magazine, Marvel Comics, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Stern Magazine and the Washington Post. Its most well known product is the Twin Galaxies Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records (ISBN 1887472-25-8), which is a 984-page book published in 1998 by Sunstar Publishing of Fairfield, Iowa, containing 116 pictures and 12,416 scores from players in 31 different countries compiled during the years 1981-1997. I guess this leads to only one conclusion, ok two: 1) No Ankaroid in the MARP tourney AND 2) No Stephen in the tourney (As he is dominating the Decathlon) Seriously, congratulations on your feat, and why didn't you tell me that TG resides in my own state! (I need then to organize a tourney here in the backyard then!) (Records will then be falling, my friend) One positive note: I did beat Stephen's Decathlon (Is it with or without the e) for Tron, but that's about it. Congrats, again Stephen
