what should I wear on an alpine climbing trip?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

I am going climbing in the Swiss Alps For the first time and I am not sure what clothing i will need to take with me. I have been walking by a glacier at 2700 meters before but I was only wearing shorts and T shirt. So I Would like to Know what to wear If i was going up to 4000 meters for example. Thank you very much.

Not too sure about the weather there, but my standard clothing for backcountry climbing trips consists of:

midweight thermals for top and bottom.

fleece top.

down vest.

shell pants and jacket.

light gloves and hat.

Better to err on the side of too warm than too cold, but at the same time, you don't want a monster pack.
