Flint and Koskinen: Seperated at birth?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

From the textbook Y2K SPIN 101:

Let's analyze a recent sound bite from the K-man:

"Clearly, I think developing countries are going to have more problems than developed countries, but when the dust settles ... it wouldn't surprise me to find that we have more failures in developed countries because we have far more systems," Koskinen said.

OK, lets deconstruct it logically:

"Clearly, I think { p }, but it wouldn't surprise me find that { NOT p }"

This is like saying "I'm sure we'll be OK, but I'm sure we'll not be OK" or "Y2K will not be that bad, unless it's bad, and in that case it'll probably be pretty bad."

Logically, these statements are useless. Logic is about decisions (IF something). Logic is about outcomes (THEN do something). Logic is about sufficient proof (BECAUSE of x and y or z).

For those new to this forum, consider this a primer to understanding the posts of Flint and the other pollyannas.

Flint, buddy

See what I mean with your bizarre version of French Hamlet?

"a" is dead right twice in a row.

First by pointing out how Mr.Koskinen can be contradictory enough to say what he says and probably will continue to say till he gets sacked (before 2000, of course)

Second, because "a" rightly puts you and Koskinen in the same can of worms. This is because your forum posts many many times lead everyone to believe that you belong to this same "school" of y2k thought, although you might think otherwise, as you've explained to me through private correspondence to my private e-mail address.

But the point is that you can't blame "a" !! And you can't blame the guys when they call you names like "Flinton"!!

Flint, do yourself a favor and please post here your response to my private e-mail concerning IEEE, Gallup poll on bank runs, GN banking is farthest behind, and Govt. Agencies did not meet Fed deadline on contingency plans. This will clear the air in your favor.

As I've explained to you through private correspondence, you have to post your own responses on this forum, not anyone else, let alone me. I can't and will not do it for you as you suggested. This doesn't mean any additional work for you as you have them already drafted as delivered to me.

Better yet, please also post your response on the US Dept. of Commerce Report on y2k's impact upon world trade, and also to the International Settlements Bank Report on y2k's probable impact upon the international banking industry.

C'mon Flint, it's just a couple of double clicks and you are through!

a,

Remember, a, we shouldn't ask if/then questions. They're "stupid", don'tcha know?

George:

You ARE an incredible bully, not to mention a waste of time. For further information on my opinion of bullies, please see the thread entitled "A question for Cherri." I just wanted you to know that I mentioned you there and wouldn't DREAM of discussing you "behind your back."

We got a link for that?

Some of the biggest "bullies" I've know, have enormous egos....just like Anita's. Naturally, her only response will be to point out how stupid *I* am. Or, perhaps, how "unbalanced" I appear.

Thanks, Ray.

Anita,

George is not a bully - just someone who is trying to bring Flint to task for his repeated disingenuousness - very simple, even you can understand why george is doing this - no?

I'm a regular and know what flint has been doing and what he has said in the past.

New folks DO NOT - comprenede Anita???

Anita, I4m no bully. I apologize to Flint and yourself if I offended either of you in the "heat of y2k battle", if you know what I mean.

It4s just that Flint exasperates me sometimes. Flint is very intelligent, that4s why I have trouble forgiving his sometimes silly (to me) conclusions. Because, cognoscenti like you and I can interpret things a certain way. But dilettanti (there are tons) can surely be misleaded if they don4t study y2k as much as us guys/gals in the know. Many people come here for the first time Anita. Could you imagine what could happen if they just read an isolated Flint vintage post?

I didn4t mean any offense or anything though. I believe this is clear to Flint too, I guess.
