Anybody ever wonder how celebrities feel about Y2K and if they're preparing? I haven't heard any of them comment on the subject.

How about Barbara Streisand getting cold feet about performing in New York City on New Year's Eve? Maybe someone told her there was a nontrivial chance of her being unable to get out of a place that would rapidly degrade into a situation of house-to-house fighting for food...

I would think that many of them live in a bubble, and wouldn't have heard much. Of course if they have, they certainly have plenty of money to prep, even on short notice. I certainly offer to accomodate Peter Gabriel ANYTIME:)

I watched Gillian Anderson talk about Y2k during an interview on Letterman a few months back. She appeared to be a well researched GI. I've heard Lance Henrikson [-2 sp] and of course Millennium did a whole show with Y2k as a wrap around theme. Saw Jim Carey, Michael Myers, and a few others but guess they didn't make a big impression with me. Gillian was THE most aware I've heard. Too bad the audience seemed to treat it as a funny subject.

I don't if Stephen King has a position on Y2K but I know he wrote a best seller many years ago called "The Stand". It was purely fictional but to my mind it represented one possible scenario and gave a very good commentary about how man's fiddling around with nature has been a double edged sword. What with all the advancements we have made in the last hundred years and how it hasn't been tempered with enough wisdom. I'd love to find out if he has any views on the subject.

Robin Williams (of all people) is stockpiling food at a rural location. He has joked about the night all of the world's computers go "ahhrrggg..." but he was also serious. His public persona is a lot different than his private one. He's a fisherman and outdoorsman. A number of celeb's have been quietly acquiring farms and rural acreage in the San Juan Islands here in Washington State. Now, that COULD mean that they like the scenery, or just think it's a good investment.

We have also seen celebs purchase ranches in the past nine months in Superior (northern) California. They are all of the martial arts "tough guy" set. Unusual for here.

Leonard Nimoy narrated a Y2K video. Does anyone know if he actually gets it ? If he said the word, a lot of his fans would prepare. Whatever else you may think of trekkies, they are capable of putting a lot of time and money into their projects.

What would it be like to know that you could save people's lives just by making one statement...... you would think that if any celebrities get it they would speak out......

I heard on the news last weekend that Stephen King was struck by a vehicle as he walked along the side of the road in Maine.

He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and I have heard nothing since.

Hope he is okay! I love his writing!

I think of him as one of the 'giants' mentioned in the Star Trek movie where they are in San Francisco looking for whales.

I believe the reference regarded the size of the books, but King is a 'giant' in my book!

If it's any comfort to you, Stephen suffered multiple broken bones in one leg (with an accompanying hip-bone injury), a collapsed lung, and a minor laceration on his head. He's still in serious condition, they say, but he's joking with the nurses. I'm sure once his lung condition is repaired, he'll be writing aplenty again.

FWIW, current status on Stephen King from ABCNEWS.com: Stephen King undergoes third operation

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) _ Author Stephen King underwent a third operation today for multiple injuries suffered when he was struck by a van last weekend.

King's mood remained upbeat before he went into the operating room, said Charles Gill, a spokesman at Central Maine Medical Center.

Doctors hope to repair King's right hip socket with today's surgery, Gill said. The previous operations were carried out to stabilize his broken leg bones and insert pins and plates.

Gill didn't know how many more operations will be needed to bring the 51-year-old ``Master of Horror'' back to full health. Doctors have said rehabilitation could go on for months...

I do know that Oprah thinks y2k is all hype. She had a show about it awhile back and it was more of showing how some people are getting all worked up for nothing over y2k. I think that show will be responsible for thousands of unprepared families.
