Any reports posted on Virginia meeting??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I haven't seen any reports by participants at the recent Virginia meeting. Were any posted? If so, could someone kindly provide the URL(s)? If there have been no reports yet, would one of the participants consider providing one?

Thanks.

John,

I'll give an abbreviated report.

About 50 people attended Carla Emery's seminar and additional people came to the picnic afterwards.

Carla Emery's presentation lasted about 5.5 hours. About one third of the time was spent by Carla talking about Y2K. The rest of the time was spent on practical steps to prepare for Y2K (and self-reliant living in general).

Carla had lots of props: grain mills, water purifiers, flash lights, stoves, solar panels, etc.

She also had an amazing assortment of books available for sale... Not just her own. Carla gave away many books and audio tapes for free. This was her last lecture. No more are scheduled. She's off to New Zealamnd next week to write a New Zealand version of her Encyclopedia of Country Living.

As an aside, if you don't have a copy of her book, order one today. You need it. It's 40 or 50 books in one volume and worth every penny. It may be your lifesaver (literally).

I think most people came away with a boatload of hints and tips.

One of the nicest parts of the day was getting together with like- minded people. A great number of participants on this discussion group met each other for the first time. And what a fine group of people they are, too!

The picnic really gave everyone a chance to get to know each other. Sally of Y2K Kitchen did some demos (flat bread cooked in a skillet) and handed out recipes.

If any of you reading this ever get a chance to socialize with other members of this discussion list, make sure you take advantage of it.

I can't overstate how nice and upstanding the people on this list who attended the Carla Emery seminar are.

Maybe some other participants could write some more about what they got out of the seminar.

Thanks for the report, Walt.

One thing you did not mention, but that is of interest to me (and perhaps to others who read this forum): a list of names / handles of people who post here and were also at the gathering.

Regards

Johnny

Here are a few:

bingo Mr. Decker Stan Faryna

There are more but I don't know all the aliases.

Walt,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you publicly for all your efforts, which resulted in a SPECTACULAR morning/afternoon/evening! Can we do it again this weekend? :-)

BTW, Mr. Decker has both horns AND a tail! Did I mention his spots? Not unlike a Trill's markings. I may have spied fangs as well as a slight split in his tongue. Each statement he made was precipitated by an ever-so-soft hissss...

Those of you who couldn't, or wouldn't show up - perhaps Mr. Decker will invite us all up to his neck of the woods. I understand the sacrifice of a D&Ger during the upcoming eclipse (August 11) will be a can't-miss event.

Actually Ken is bright, educated, well-mannered, and has a really great pair of legs.

Best Wishes,

Walt,

Thank you again for your hospitality. I hope that we can meet again and continue our unfinished conversation. I almost look forward to camping out across the road from you.

It's rare too laugh out loud on this forum, but Bingo had me near tears. The "trill"-like spots are actually freckles. The rest is probably true, except for the great legs. (laughter) I think he must have confused me with the leggy strawberry blonde in attendance.

On the whole, I found the quality of conversation far exceeded the usual banter on the forum. People were polite and thoughtful.

If I host a "roast," it will have to be outside. A surprising number of attendees appeared to be avid smokers. It easier to understand the "end of the world" feeling... imagine having to go "cold turkey" on January 1st. (laughter)

Regards,

Johnny,

I'm curious...why would a Canadian like yourself who is certain Y2K will only be a "bump-in-the-road" be interested in who attended a Y2K meeting in Virginia?
