Goverment y2k fears.............! typo or intent?

eh...just another manufacturer bent on using Y2k to make a profit...cha...NOT!

they've sold 180 phones in the last four months?

they sold 300 in ALL of 1998?

and this,

"Ottar Bjaastad, Nera Satcom's general manager, says sales have been soaring in recent times because of government agencies, particularly defense departments in the US, Canada, and the UK, are worried about their phone systems going out as a result of Y2K problems."

Hope the sat phones still work. I wonder how much those puppies cost each?

I guess the question would be: are they still buying them? US DOD, that is. Maybe they're trying to burn up unspent Y2K allocation dollars on cool toys... or maybe those 1200-1500 mom & pop telcos really could cause transmission problems for the fat-cat telcos.
